DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 303.

Scientific Sound Asia presents a new edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Aligned with the station’s commitment to underground culture, the series explores house music shaped by soul, groove and emotional depth, connecting artists and listeners across Asia and beyond through carefully curated radio programming.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and DJ culture, built through years of collecting, listening and performing.

Although his musical path has traversed techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has always remained central to his artistic identity. During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped sustain its momentum by organising events and collaborating closely with fellow DJs and producers to maintain a resilient creative community.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed purpose through Floating Beats, a series recognised for its melodic and forward-looking direction. Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project, dedicated to deeper, warmer and more soulful expressions of house music.

Working under several aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore multiple creative perspectives. Each identity represents a distinct facet of his sound, ranging from rhythm-driven minimalism to emotionally focused melodic expression.

In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own productions while supporting underground artists committed to authenticity and musical depth. The imprint has since become a platform for his evolving studio work and collaborations.

Under the Joshua Marian name, the 2024 Nobody Waiting For Me EP on Back to the Beat delivered an organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic warmth of I Love You, both rooted in classic house traditions. Follow-up releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul expanded this palette further, blending groove with subtle emotional nuance.

In 2025, his K Joshua single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective approach, pairing deep house rhythms with melodic phrasing that balances reflection and forward motion. Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to express his musical vision, each episode unfolding as a warm, fluid journey that honours the enduring spirit of house music.

The episode opens with Life Flow by Flabaire, setting a warm deep house foundation before Tony Lionni’s Believe in Miracles introduces a classic house sensibility. Lars Behrenroth’s Nothing and Omid 16B’s I Feel continue the refined deep house direction, balancing groove with melodic restraint.

Midway through, the texture tightens with Melodic Shadows, leaning into minimal and deep tech territory while maintaining fluid rhythm. Byron the Aquarius’ A New Life and Eddie Leader’s The Vision restore a soulful house feel, creating contrast between stripped-back and full-bodied arrangements.

Manuel Kane’s Come On and James Dexter’s Lady reinforce the minimal deep tech character, with rolling basslines and subtle percussion detail. Harrison BDP’s Cherry brings the focus back to deep house, adding emotional weight through understated progression.

Towards the close, Nico Cassou’s Spoken Words introduces a raw, hypnotic techno edge with dub undertones, shifting the mood darker before DJ Central’s Blink resolves the set with a clean house rhythm. Velvety Elements 303 flows naturally between deep house warmth, minimal groove and subtle hypnotic intensity, maintaining cohesion throughout.
