Scientific Sound Asia presents a new edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. In line with the station’s ongoing commitment to underground culture, the series continues to explore house music shaped by soul, groove and emotional depth, connecting artists and listeners across Asia and beyond through carefully curated radio programming.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been deeply embedded in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His enduring relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and DJ culture, forged through years of collecting, listening and performing.

Although his musical path has traversed techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has always remained central to his artistic identity. During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua played an active role in sustaining its momentum, organising events and collaborating closely with fellow DJs and producers to nurture a resilient creative community.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed purpose by launching Floating Beats, a series recognised for its melodic and forward-looking direction. Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project, dedicated to deeper, warmer and more soulful expressions of house music.

Working under several aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore multiple creative perspectives. Each identity represents a distinct facet of his sound, ranging from rhythm-led minimalism to emotionally driven melodic expression.

In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own productions while supporting underground artists committed to authenticity and musical depth. The imprint has since become a key platform for his evolving studio work and collaborative projects.

Under the Joshua Marian name, the 2024 Nobody Waiting For Me EP on Back to the Beat delivered an organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic warmth of I Love You, both firmly rooted in classic house traditions. Follow-up releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul further expanded this palette, blending groove with subtle emotional nuance.

In 2025, his K Joshua single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective approach, pairing deep house rhythms with melodic phrasing that balances reflection and forward motion. Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to articulate the essence of his musical vision, with each episode unfolding as a warm, fluid journey that honours the enduring soul of house music.

The mix opens with a distinctly warm and soulful tone as Someone Now establishes a steady, spacious Deep House groove. Yeah Babe follows with a smoother, more liquid feel, before Opposites deepens the atmosphere with its reflective, late-night textures. Elements briefly shifts the energy toward a more traditional House bounce, adding subtle lift without breaking the flow.

The set then returns fully to Deep House territory with Little Gift and Dream V, where rolling basslines and atmospheric pads create a hypnotic, layered motion. Ready to Thrive keeps the rhythm fluid while introducing a slightly firmer club sensibility, leading naturally into the lush, melodic movement of Cascada.

A sharper edge arrives with Wrong Way, bringing Jackin' House swing and a tighter drum pattern that contrasts with the smoother tracks before it. This quickly softens again as I’m Not a New Kid restores the deeper, more emotive mood, blending warmth with understated groove.

The closing section maintains that deep, immersive character through Bouncing Dance and finally Dependant, allowing the mix to settle into a steady, rolling finish. Overall, the episode stays rooted in classic-influenced Deep House, moving gently between soulfulness, rhythm and subtle dancefloor drive.

Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, catch the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
