DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 298.

Scientific Sound Asia presents a new edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Remaining aligned with the station’s focus on underground culture, the series continues to showcase house music shaped by soul, groove and emotional depth, connecting artists and listeners across Asia and beyond.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to the underground.

While his journey has moved through techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has consistently remained at the core of his artistic identity. During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua played an active role in keeping it alive through event organisation and close collaboration with fellow DJs and producers.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed focus, launching Floating Beats, a series known for its melodic and forward-looking direction. Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project, dedicated to deeper, warmer and more soulful expressions of house.

Working under several aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore multiple creative perspectives. Each identity reflects a distinct facet of his sound, ranging from rhythm-led minimalism to emotionally driven melodic expression.

In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own productions while supporting underground artists committed to authenticity and musical depth. Recent releases mark a period of strong creative momentum.

Under the Joshua Marian name, the 2024 Nobody Waiting For Me EP on Back to the Beat delivered an organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic tones of I Love You, both firmly rooted in classic house traditions. Follow-up releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul expanded this palette, blending groove with subtle emotional nuance.

In 2025, his K Joshua single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective approach, pairing deep house rhythms with melodic phrasing that balances reflection and forward motion. Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to articulate the essence of his musical vision. Each episode unfolds as a warm and flowing journey, weaving rhythm and harmony into a listening experience that honours the enduring soul of house music.

The episode opens with a deep and immersive tone, leaning firmly into Deep House from the outset. Warm basslines, loose swing and understated rhythm shape the early flow, establishing a late-night atmosphere built on patience and groove rather than peak-time energy.

As the mix develops, the Deep House narrative continues with a refined and soulful feel. Mid-set, Little Gift, DJ Joshua’s own production released under his Joshua Marian alias, is woven naturally into the journey. The track reinforces the episode’s core identity, adding a personal touch while staying fully aligned with the deep, groove-led direction of the session.

The second half maintains consistency through layered chords, subtle percussion and classic Deep House structure. A brief shift toward Tech House introduces a touch of added punch, offering contrast without breaking the relaxed and cohesive flow that defines Velvety Elements.

The closing stretch settles back into Deep House and House territory, finishing with warmth, clarity and restraint. Velvety Elements 298 closes as a focused and elegant Deep House session, centred on groove, musical continuity and DJ Joshua’s own contribution embedded seamlessly within the mix.
