DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 288.

Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Remaining true to the station’s commitment to linking underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series highlights house music in its most soulful, groove-driven, and emotionally expressive form.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the 1990s. His extensive collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital works represents decades of dedication to sound and a lasting connection to underground culture. While he has explored techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house music has always remained central to his artistic identity.

During quieter times for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped keep it alive by organising events and promoting collaboration among DJs and producers. After stepping back to focus on family, he returned with renewed purpose, launching Floating Beats, known for its melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which focuses on the deeper, more soulful side of house.

Working under several aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores a range of sounds from percussive minimalism to emotive and melodic house. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label designed to showcase both his own releases and those of like-minded underground artists who share his commitment to warmth, depth, and authenticity.

Recent highlights include the Nobody Waiting For Me EP as Joshua Marian, released on Back to the Beat in late 2024, featuring the organ-driven title track alongside the nostalgic I Love You. His Just Love and Chance With Soul releases continue to demonstrate his knack for fusing groove with emotion, while his 2025 K-Joshua release Light of Faith adds a more introspective tone, pairing deep house rhythm with melodic phrasing that captures both reflection and movement.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to refine his artistic direction. He crafts sets that merge rhythm and emotion into an experience that embodies the enduring soul of house music.

Velvety Elements 288 opens with smooth depth as Deep Delirium establishes a fluid atmosphere of gentle pads and steady percussion. Melodic Shadows adds subtle low-end roll before Style introduces jazz-tinged chords that shift the mix into a breezy yet grounded flow. The dub mix of So Underground brings classic club energy with stripped-back drive, keeping the groove clean and direct.

DJ Joshua’s own Never Play Guitar softens the tone with melodic bass and uplifting phrasing, an early highlight that fits seamlessly among established underground voices. Walking Dub follows, adding measured minimalism through careful percussion design. The tempo rises through Wolking To The Beat and Kick Da Flow, both recalling house’s Chicago core while maintaining a polished, contemporary rhythm.

Midway, The Passage deepens the palette with layered keys and pulsing bass, a moment of meditative swing that anchors the set. Sometimes I Think About expands that space into an emotional centrepiece, one of DJ Joshua’s strongest original deep house offerings, balancing harmony and drive.

As the mix reaches its close, Y Don’t U (Cinthie Remix) injects funk and bite, bridging the energy to 90’s Sunshine, which closes the set with nostalgic optimism. Velvety Elements 288 captures the perfect intersection between deep house emotion, minimal restraint, and club-floor vitality, showcasing DJ Joshua’s refined understanding of groove and texture on Scientific Sound Asia.
