DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 287.

Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua stands in a derelict house at the bottom of a circular stairwell, with a graffiti-covered wall behind him. He wears a leather jacket and glances over his right shoulder in a black-and-white image.

Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Staying true to the station’s mission of connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series celebrates house music in its most soulful, groove-driven, and emotionally expressive forms.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been a devoted figure in electronic music since the 1990s. His vast archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital releases reflects decades of passion for sound and a deep respect for underground culture. While he has explored genres such as techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house music has always remained central to his creative vision.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped sustain its movement by organising grassroots events and encouraging collaboration among DJs and producers. After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned with renewed purpose, launching Floating Beats, recognised for its melodic and immersive tone, followed by Velvety Elements, which delves into the deeper and more soulful layers of house.

Producing under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores multiple dimensions of his sound, from percussive minimal grooves to melodic and emotive house. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label built to showcase his productions alongside emerging underground talent focused on warmth, depth, and authenticity.

Recent highlights include the Nobody Waiting For Me EP as Joshua Marian, released on Back to the Beat in late 2024, featuring the organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic I Love You. Other key works such as Just Love and Chance With Soul continue to reflect his ability to merge soulful energy with refined musical craftsmanship. His 2025 release, Light of Faith, under his K-Joshua alias, introduces a more introspective tone, blending deep house rhythm with melodic phrasing that captures both emotion and groove.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to evolve his artistic vision, offering a space where rhythm, warmth, and sincerity meet. Each episode provides a deeply human listening experience that embodies the timeless heart and unity of house music.

Velvety Elements 287 opens with the smooth tones of Open Your Eyes by The Revenge and Jacy’s Feel The G, setting the scene with lush grooves and warm basslines. Flabaire’s Saturday Afternoon and Intr0beatz’s Too Much Info continue this rich, layered mood, infusing organic rhythm with understated energy.

The flow deepens with Fred P’s Water Melon, a soulful slice of Deep House craftsmanship, and Odee X’s Culture (Dub), whose stripped-down textures bridge into the elegance of Nicola Brusegan’s Seduction. Delicious Inc.’s Back To Roots nods to the genre’s foundations, keeping the rhythm grounded in timeless House spirit.

As the mix unfolds, Franck Roger’s Blue (Instrumental) and Jack District’s NY Nights maintain a perfect late-night balance between introspection and club groove. Their subtle interplay of deep basslines and crisp percussion reflects Joshua’s ongoing dedication to melodic precision and mood-driven selection.

Closing with Manuel Kane’s Back and WillowMan’s Bouncing Dance, the set fades into an immersive finale of rhythm and resonance. Velvety Elements 287 reaffirms DJ Joshua’s reputation for crafting elegant Deep House journeys that fuse warmth, subtlety, and sophistication in every beat.

Be sure to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't make it, the replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
