DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 285.

Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Staying true to the station’s mission of connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series celebrates house music in its most soulful, groove-driven, and emotionally expressive forms.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been a devoted presence in electronic music since the 1990s. His vast collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital media reflects decades of passion for sound and a deep respect for underground culture. While he has explored genres such as techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house music has always remained at the core of his artistic expression.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped keep the movement alive by organising grassroots events and promoting collaboration among DJs and producers. After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned to the decks with renewed purpose, launching Floating Beats, known for its melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which delves into the deeper and more soulful layers of house.

Producing under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores diverse creative directions, from minimal grooves to melodic, emotive house. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to showcase both his own productions and music from innovative underground artists who share his focus on warmth, depth, and authenticity.

Recent highlights include the Nobody Waiting For Me EP as Joshua Marian, released on Back to the Beat in late 2024, featuring the organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic I Love You. Other standout tracks such as Just Love and Chance With Soul further demonstrate his ability to merge soulful energy with refined musical craftsmanship.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to develop his sound and vision, offering a blend of rhythm, warmth, and sincerity that reflects the timeless heart of house music. Each episode provides a space for listeners to reconnect with the emotion and unity that define the genre.

DJ Joshua opens this edition with Ninetoes’ Diana, infusing a vibrant tech house groove that builds an immediate pulse. The tempo shifts gracefully into the minimal depth of Dylan Debut’s In The Mood before settling into the sultry and soulful tones of You Make Me by Bonilla and DJ Sneak’s En Route. Each track layers warmth and rhythm with classic underground flair.

Midway through, Kevin Yost’s Indignation and Underground Sound Of Lisbon’s African Dream evoke nostalgic house textures, bridging early deep house aesthetics with modern flow. Opcode Vision’s S900 and Danny Howells’ Powershow (Payback Dub) drive the energy subtly upward with hypnotic basslines and analogue punch.

The mix continues with DJ Vibe’s Eclectic and Kerri Chandler’s Turn Off The Lights (Who’s Afraid Of The Dark), both drenched in soulful harmony and atmospheric depth. Tuccillo’s Happyness and Thomas Stieler’s Who Are You carry the session to a smooth close, reflecting Joshua’s ability to merge emotion with groove.

Velvety Elements 285 stands as a masterful flow of deep, minimal, and classic influences, balancing elegance with energy, a pure expression of deep house artistry.
