Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As part of the station’s mission to connect underground artists across Asia and internationally, the series showcases house music in its most soulful and refined forms.

Joshua, based in Évora, Portugal, has been immersed in electronic music since the 1990s. His vast collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats reflects decades of passion for sound and dedication to underground culture. While his career has explored techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house has always remained the foundation of his creative direction.

During quieter years for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua remained active by organising events and fostering collaboration. After taking time out for family life, he returned with renewed energy to launch Floating Beats, a show known for melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which highlights groove-driven, soulful strands of house.

Performing under multiple aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore a wide spectrum of sounds, from minimal and percussive grooves to melodic and emotional journeys. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his own productions as well as carefully curated releases from emerging artists, with a focus on deep, resonant house.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua refines his personal interpretation of house while nurturing a global community of listeners. Each show celebrates the genre’s richness and diversity, offering an authentic and soulful experience week after week.

Velvety Elements 279 begins with Yapacc & Robert Conroy’s Numerology Of Pint Balls in the El Mundo & Satori Remix, bringing hypnotic percussion into the mix. Standard Fair’s Keep On (Someone Else Remix) and DJ W!ld’s I’m Not Human build on this tech house foundation with minimal grooves and darker tones.

Marc Poppcke’s Simplify Matters in Markus Homm’s remix introduces minimal deep tech, its clean production blending seamlessly into Nikola Gala’s A Voice From Outer Space, which adds atmospheric tech house textures. Nima Gorji & Sunsetpeople’s Youzer and Leix & Hitch’s Mrslade keep the momentum with underground-focused grooves, while H-Foundation’s Passage Of Time in D’Julz’s remix channels classic deep tech house.

The set intensifies with Technasia’s Heart Of Flesh, a powerful tech house selection, before shifting into techno with Vozmediano’s There’s A Light in Rolando’s hypnotic remix. Trickski’s Past Sense follows with deep house warmth, adding melodic depth.

The closing stretch features Anil Chawla’s Pondi, an electronica track that introduces experimental tones, and Nick Curly’s Rebound (Dub), which finishes the mix on a hypnotic, groove-driven tech house note. Velvety Elements 279 once again highlights Joshua’s skill in balancing underground tech house with deep, minimal, and melodic influences.
