Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As part of the station’s commitment to connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series celebrates House music in its most soulful and refined forms.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been an active figure in electronic music since the 1990s. His extensive archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital releases represents decades of exploration across genres. While his journey has included Techno, Drum & Bass, and Chillout, House has always remained the foundation of his artistic expression.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua supported the culture behind the scenes by organising events and fostering collaborations. After a break to focus on family life, he returned with fresh energy, first launching Floating Beats, a show known for melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which showcases groove-driven interpretations of House.

Performing under aliases including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores a wide range of approaches, from minimal and percussive to soulful and melodic. In 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his own productions as well as deep and emotionally engaging releases from emerging artists.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to refine his signature sound while building a global community of House enthusiasts. His show captures the depth and diversity of House and its sub-genres, offering listeners an authentic and soulful journey each week.

Velvety Elements 277 opens with the reflective grooves of Horizon by DJ Pipe and Celestial Bean by Half Dead Dave, both steeped in deep house rhythms. The journey continues with the warmth of Until The End Of Time by Lost Boys and Can’t Master by Alton Miller, showcasing classic house flavours.

Joselacruz raises the intensity with Stress Sex, followed by Más Profundo (Sakr Remix) by Bruxas, which introduces a colourful nu disco/disco influence. The upbeat swing of Chick House by Bress Underground delivers crisp jackin house energy, before Nacho Marco’s Cherry On Top brings back smooth house tones.

Joshua Marian contributes his own track Go Slow, a moody deep house cut, seamlessly blending into the soulful Dance Partner by Sonata Collective. Toomy Disco’s Understand U enriches the mid-set with atmospheric touches, deepening the immersive flow.

The show closes with Together We Love by Technasia, a powerful tech house anthem that lifts the energy before fading out. Across deep house, house, jackin house, nu disco, and tech house, DJ Joshua curates a set that reflects the diversity and subtlety of Velvety Elements.

Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
