Scientific Sound Asia has just released the latest playlist for Velvety Elements, the radio show curated by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As an established electronic music platform, DJ agency, and event organiser, Scientific Sound Asia continues to support underground talent across Asia and around the world.
Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been part of the electronic music scene since the 1990s. His extensive collection spans vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats, reflecting his long-standing passion for sound. While he has explored various styles, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has always remained central to his creative output.
During periods of difficulty for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua played a key role in helping it survive and evolve. He supported the movement by organising events, building local connections, and engaging in collaborative projects that kept House and Techno culture alive.
After stepping back from DJing to focus on family, Joshua eventually returned to music with a renewed vision. He launched Floating Beats, a show centred on melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which showcases smoother, groove-led styles of House music.
Working under multiple aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores a range of sounds, from minimal and rhythmic to soulful and emotive. In early 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his evolving catalogue and to supporting like-minded artists who value depth and feeling in their House music.
DJ Joshua sets the tone for Velvety Elements 273 with an energised blend of House and Deep House. Tracks like Pass It Around by DJ Sneak and Achieve by Kevin Yost bring groove-heavy energy, perfect for easing into the set’s signature warmth. Odee X's Culture Dub keeps the rhythm moving with earthy basslines and an infectious house pulse.
The mix slides into deeper territory with S900 by Opcode Vision and Two On the Terrace by PACH., bringing in that classic Minimal / Deep Tech sound. Ralph Lawson & Wulf N Bear’s Raptures of the Deep (Craig Richards Remix) adds an elegant tension with stripped-back textures and hypnotic loops, maintaining the signature flow of the deep house mix.
Danny Howells and Matt Masters’ Introspection steers the set into melodic introspection, followed by rich low-end grooves from D'Julz’s Lionized and Ed Ed’s Eight Track Player. These selections highlight DJ Joshua’s ability to deliver thoughtful yet dancefloor-ready deep house music, pulling from artists known for subtle depth and rhythmic detail.
As the show nears its end, the intensity ramps up slightly with Dirty Jobs by Sascha Sonido and Freetown by G. Flame bringing in a tech house flavour. Greg Gow’s Industry reintroduces classic house motifs before DJ Windows 7 closes the set on a high with the UK Garage-influenced Xpiadora. This episode captures the full spectrum of what deep house music and minimal grooves offer today.
