Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for a new episode of DJ Joshua’s respected radio series, Velvety Elements. As a prominent electronic music station, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia continues to play a key role in supporting the region’s vibrant music culture.
DJ Joshua, who is based in Évora, Portugal, has spent decades immersed in electronic music. His extensive collection, ranging from digital files to vinyl, CDs, and tapes, demonstrates his lifelong dedication to sound. Though his experience spans Techno, Drum & Bass, and Chillout, House music has consistently remained at the heart of his artistic expression.
In the 1990s, when Portugal’s underground music scene faced cultural resistance and infrastructure challenges, Joshua was a driving force behind its growth. He organised events, collaborated with peers, and found creative ways to share music, helping to build a scene that laid lasting foundations for House and Techno in the country.
After pausing live performances to focus on family, Joshua returned to music with fresh inspiration. He launched Floating Beats, a radio show focused on deep and melodic sounds, followed by Velvety Elements, which explores the more elegant and groove-led side of House.
Working under multiple aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he continues to delve into a range of House styles, each with its own creative identity. In early 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, a label designed to release both his music and that of like-minded artists, pushing forward his refined vision of soulful, high-quality House.
DJ Joshua opens Episode 268 with Saturday Afternoon by Flabaire, setting a mellow tone with soft chords and a dusty groove. Tracks like Ancient Water Funk by Black Eyes and Azura by Reedale Rise continue this subtle flow with smooth House textures and deep melodic runs.
In the midsection, Extensions by Tuccillo and Sunday Loop by DJ Deep & Traumer bring in minimalist structures and stripped-back beats, giving the mix a laid-back yet hypnotic feel. Gas In My Blunt by Slugg adds some quirky edge, sitting neatly beside Juno Dance by Reboot.
As the set progresses, the soulful side of Deep House shines through. Lake Fishin by DJ Sneak and Oblivion by Finest Wear layer funk-laced rhythms and emotive pads, delivering groove-driven warmth that defines this mix’s essence.
Joshua closes with Dance Partner by Sonata Collective and his own track Let Love, keeping the energy flowing with rich harmonies and warm basslines. Episode 268 wraps up with a cohesive journey through refined Deep House and Minimal Tech flavours.
