Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for the newest episode of DJ Joshua’s esteemed radio series, Velvety Elements. Through its reputable presence as a radio platform, event organiser, and DJ agency, it continues to play a pivotal role in the region's musical evolution.

DJ Joshua, hailing from Évora, Portugal, has devoted decades to the electronic music scene. His extensive collection, which includes digital recordings, vinyl, CDs, and cassettes, highlights his profound and lasting commitment to sound. Although his experience encompasses a variety of genres, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has consistently served as the cornerstone of his artistic expression.

In the 1990s, when Portugal's underground music scene encountered societal resistance and logistical challenges, Joshua remained a steadfast supporter of the movement. He played a crucial role in organising events, collaborating with fellow artists, and discovering innovative methods to disseminate music. His contributions were instrumental in cultivating a local culture deeply rooted in House and Techno, a legacy that continues to thrive.

After taking a hiatus from live performances to prioritise family life, Joshua made a return to music with a revitalised passion. He launched his radio show, Floating Beats, which serves as a platform for showcasing deep and melodic electronic sounds. This resurgence also led to the creation of Velvety Elements, a second programme that explores the more sophisticated and groove-driven facets of House music.

Employing a variety of production aliases such as K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he delves into an array of House music styles, each characterised by its unique creative identity. Furthermore, his label, JFLM Recordings, which he established in January 2024, provides a platform for both his own releases and those of like-minded artists, thereby furthering his exploration of the genre.

Velvety Elements 265 opens with a silky groove as Kings Of Tomorrow’s “Kaoz” gets a smooth Deep House update from Dario D'Attis. Eat Dust’s “Love & Sound” follows with rhythmic Tech House flow, while Lauren Lo Sung's “Fixate” drops into stripped-back Minimal/Tech House territory. Danny Howells brings warmth and melody on “Earthlings X”, contrasting the low-slung tech of James Dexter & Frink’s “Gone”.

Craig Williams & Vula’s “Don’t Let Go” remixed by Josh Butler injects soulful House energy, maintaining the groove before Hector Couto’s “I Feel You” steps in with Tech House precision. Sascha Dive’s “Untitled Deepness” continues with hypnotic layers, offering a subtle but driving edge.

The mix rolls on with Pedro Costa’s “Portugal” and Caravaca’s “D50”, both keeping things tight and rhythmic within Tech House’s steady bounds. To close, DJ Vibe & Fauvrelle’s “The Present, The Future” blends classic House essence with modern texture, wrapping up another well-balanced hour from DJ Joshua.
