DJ Joshua has published the latest tracklists for his weekly radio shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia. The station continues its role as a leading Asian electronic music platform and DJ agency, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.

DJ Joshua, real name Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese electronic music collector whose deep musical knowledge is shaped by decades of immersion in underground culture. Raised in Évora, his teenage years were defined by an ever-growing obsession with electronic music, spanning house, techno, drum and bass and chillout, with techno gradually becoming a key foundation of his sound.

Like many DJs who came of age in the 1990s, Joshua began DJing on vinyl, developing a strong connection to record digging and long-form mixing. His passion soon extended to Portuguese radio stations, where he showcased a wide range of electronic styles, while also organising and performing at raves alongside friends and fellow enthusiasts. As Portugal’s rave movement gathered momentum, he recognised the importance of giving underground music a consistent voice on local airwaves.

After stepping away from DJing to focus on family life, Joshua later returned with renewed focus, launching Floating Beats as a platform to reconnect with the international scene. The show quickly evolved into a recognised series for melodic, progressive and emotive electronic music, later complemented by Velvety Elements, which places greater emphasis on deep, soulful and groove-led house.

Alongside his radio work, Joshua has become increasingly active as a producer, releasing music under several aliases, each reflecting a different aspect of his artistic identity. As K-Joshua, his Hopeful Mind EP explored deep and emotive house textures. Under the Joshua Fernand name, he moved into raw and hypnotic territory with the Logic Move EP.

His Joshua Marian project delivered soulful, groove-driven house through releases such as Chance With Soul, while Joshua Onairam focuses on cinematic and melodic storytelling, including the 2025 release Shiny Night, which blends progressive flow with emotional depth.

In 2024, Joshua also launched JFLM Recordings, a label created to house his own productions while supporting underground artists who share his values of authenticity, musical depth and expressive sound design. Together, his recent releases, radio shows and label activity reflect a period of strong creative momentum.

Across Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to present a carefully curated spectrum of house and techno, including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Melodic Techno and Techno. Each episode is guided by flow, emotion and narrative, reinforcing his belief in music as an art form that moves both body and mind.

Floating Beats 721 locks into a deep, uncompromising techno mindset, driven by raw, hypnotic pressure and restrained peak-time momentum. The opening stretch establishes a stark atmosphere through Hugo Rolan’s Mind Design and Sr2’s Cognitive Dissonance, both leaning into Axis-inspired minimalism and tension-building repetition.

The mix intensifies through Klint’s The Mess and DIT ZY’s Horror Vacui, where gritty textures and negative space dominate. Tracks like Arma’s Modern Ate and Marçal’s Covenant maintain a steady hypnotic flow, favouring patience and groove over overt drama.

Peak-time energy rises with Benjamin Mull’s Weather Down and Kid93’s Machine Soul, adding propulsion without breaking the mood. Cristian Varela’s AC Operation injects driving precision, while Procombo and Vinicius Honorio pull the set back into darker, more introspective territory.

Joshua’s own Windy Storm sits naturally among the deeper selections, before Oscar Mulero’s La Loma closes the hour with pure Falling Ethics intensity, stripped, focused, and deeply hypnotic.

Velvety Elements shifts the energy into warmer, more expressive territory, opening with Amir Alexander’s remix of Blessed Are The Meek, where soulful depth and classic Chicago influences set the tone. Melodic elegance follows through CRi and Sophia Bel’s Love Spirit, extended by Cinthie’s signature touch.

The hour flows through deep house craftsmanship with Aske Izan’s Groove’em, DJ Steaw’s Wave Flow in Lauren Lo Sung’s remix, and Craig’s Knight Walk, each track reinforcing a smooth, groove-led narrative. Andrew Azara’s Arp City adds melodic lift while remaining grounded in house tradition.

Progressive elements surface gently through DP-6’s Spectrum (Oreason Remix) and Solntsev’s Your Message, offering subtle progression without overpowering the set’s warmth. Traumer’s Diplo and Forteba’s Time on Time bring the session home with understated, timeless deep house finesse.
