Floating Beats returns with episode 729, presented by DJ Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the series continues to champion underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events across Asia, connecting globally rooted sounds with an international audience through thoughtfully curated radio programming.
Born in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been deeply embedded in electronic music culture since the mid-1990s. His enduring relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and club culture. From early crate digging to countless hours behind the decks, his musical perspective has always been guided by curiosity, depth, and a wide-ranging appreciation of electronic music.
Throughout his career, Joshua has navigated an expansive spectrum of styles including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. During quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement, he remained active at a grassroots level, collaborating closely with fellow DJs and producers to keep the underground scene alive and creatively vibrant despite limited wider support.
After stepping away from music to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed purpose through Floating Beats, a radio and podcast series that quickly re-established his international presence. Over time, the show has evolved into a respected platform for melodic, progressive, and deeper electronic sounds, reflecting his continued growth as a selector while attracting a dedicated global listenership.
In recent years, Joshua has expanded his artistic expression through multiple aliases, each representing a distinct sonic direction. As K-Joshua, the Hopeful Mind EP explored emotive Deep House. Under the Joshua Fernand moniker, the Logic Move EP ventured into hypnotic, raw Techno.
His Joshua Marian project delivered groove-driven, soulful House with Chance With Soul, while the Joshua Onairam alias focuses on cinematic and melodic textures, as showcased on Melodic Doubts.
His latest productions demonstrate a clear refinement of this creative path.
Shiny Night, released in 2025 under the Joshua Onairam name, merges progressive melody with emotional depth, highlighting a growing emphasis on atmosphere, storytelling, and musical detail. These works build naturally on the foundations laid by Hopeful Mind and Logic Move, reinforcing a coherent evolution across his Deep House and Techno output.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to releasing his own music while collaborating with like-minded underground artists who value authenticity and artistic integrity. Together, Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings represent his long-term commitment to meaningful electronic music, offering listeners an ongoing, carefully crafted journey firmly rooted in underground culture.
The mix opens in a shadowed, spacious register as Long Reach sets a slow, hypnotic tone that blurs the line between trance and deep techno. Trekia then tightens the rhythm into a clear peak-time frame, while Iteration 2 briefly loosens the structure with a more idiosyncratic indie dance swing. Echo Rift softens the floor again, grounding the early stretch in warm, patient deep house.
Momentum rebuilds with The Fading Future, whose Detroit-informed depth introduces a darker, more contemplative palette. Stable Velocity and Destination push the session into a firmer, club-facing gear, favouring clarity of rhythm and sustained forward drive rather than dramatic breakdowns.
From Groovelapolk onwards, the programme settles into its core identity. Blacklight and Variable Adaptation deepen the hypnotic pull through circular patterns, subtle modulation and carefully controlled intensity, keeping the dancefloor locked without excess.
The closing section sharpens the focus further. Denise Echo strips things back to a minimal, rubbery groove before Take UR Time delivers a final statement of Detroit-rooted, metallic hypnosis, leaving the mix suspended between depth and drive rather than ending in spectacle.
Catch his live radio show on Monday, February 9th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). Missed it? No problem, tune in to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
