The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 717, is presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, a platform dedicated to underground electronic music, DJ culture and live events across Asia, the show continues to highlight innovative artists and global sounds.

Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been an influential figure in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital releases reflects decades of commitment to sound and a deep connection to underground culture.

Across his career, Joshua has explored a wide range of styles including house, techno, drum and bass and chillout. Even during quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement, he remained active by organising grassroots events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers, helping to sustain the local underground scene.

After briefly stepping back to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed energy through Floating Beats, a podcast and radio series that reintroduced him to the international DJ circuit. Since then, the show has grown into a respected platform for melodic, progressive and atmospheric electronic music, earning an audience that spans multiple continents.

In recent years, Joshua has expanded his creative identity through several aliases, each revealing a different side of his sound. As K-Joshua, his Hopeful Mind EP (2024) explored deep, emotive house. Under Joshua Fernand, Logic Move EP focused on hypnotic, raw techno. As Joshua Marian, Chance With Soul (2025) offered groove-driven and soulful house. Meanwhile, his Joshua Onairam project continues to pursue cinematic and melodic textures through releases such as Melodic Doubts.

His newest works reflect a confident evolution in style. Shiny Night, released in 2025 under Joshua Onairam, captures a vibrant blend of progressive melody and emotional flow, reinforcing his growing interest in atmospheric storytelling. These recent productions follow his 2024 EPs Logic Move and Hopeful Mind, marking a continued refinement of his deep house and techno roots.

To support this creative direction, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings in 2024, a label designed to release his own productions while collaborating with forward-thinking underground artists. Together with Floating Beats, the imprint reflects his long-standing dedication to authenticity, depth and emotion, offering listeners an ever-evolving journey through modern electronic music.

The show opens with the minimal flow of Metime, forming a steady and hypnotic foundation before DJ Bone’s The End Of Never deepens the atmosphere with Detroit energy. Koichi Sugimoto and Andy Kneale continue the journey by reinforcing the raw and hypnotic quality of the mix with subtle tension and evolving patterns.

A highlight arrives with Joshua Onairam’s own Dark Night, a dark and atmospheric track that shifts the mood into a more emotional space. Jules Wells lifts the energy through melodic phrasing in Dreamer, creating a moment of brightness before the groove eases into the warm house tones of Short Trip to Space and Deetron’s rhythmic precision in Translate Rhythms.

The intensity returns as Ken Ishii’s Prism drives the momentum forward with futuristic sequencing, followed by Slv’s Oblivion, which pushes deeper into hypnotic territory. These tracks build towards the peak of the mix with tightly layered percussion and brooding energy.

The closing section brings a strong final push with Salbany’s peak-time Crossroads, before the mood turns more emotive with Erase It by Works of Intent. This creates a thoughtful finish that balances melody and power, rounding out a session defined by depth, rhythm and atmospheric movement.

Don't miss his live radio show on Monday, November 17th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you're unable to listen then, a replay will air on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
