Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 700, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading force in the underground scene, Scientific Sound Asia continues to operate as a radio station, DJ agency, and event organiser, promoting electronic music culture throughout Asia and beyond.
Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His collection spans vinyl, cassette tapes, CDs, and digital formats, showcasing his lifelong dedication to music across various media.
Over the years, Joshua has explored a wide spectrum of genres, including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even during the decline of Portugal’s rave era in the late 1990s, he stayed closely connected to the underground scene by organising grassroots events and working with fellow artists to keep the movement alive.
After stepping back from performance and broadcasting to prioritise family life, Joshua eventually returned to music with a fresh focus. As his daughter grew older, he launched Floating Beats, a radio show and podcast that marked the beginning of his renewed artistic journey.
In 2023, he began releasing original productions under a series of aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each moniker reflects a different side of his creative expression, from melodic and emotive tracks to minimal and experimental compositions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to supporting his expanding discography and artistic direction. JFLM serves both as an outlet for his work and as a platform for innovative sounds, reinforcing Joshua’s commitment to pushing boundaries and maintaining his influence within the global electronic music scene.
Floating Beats 700 opens with Balinese Morality by Louis The 4th and The 5 by Stephen Brown, the session dives into hypnotic territory with looping grooves and restrained percussion. These early selections set a deep and moody tone, supported by Greg Gow’s Get Up and Aero’s Caged Birds, both delivering Detroit-inspired atmospheres and analogue warmth.
The centre of the show intensifies with SLV’s Yuna and Pressure, and Operator’s Deliberate, maintaining the hypnotic energy. Tal Fussman’s Everybody (KiNK Remix) injects a jolt of peak-time drive, making it a standout for its twisted bass and rhythmic tension. Marco Bailey’s Infinite Bunker adds further weight to the momentum with his signature industrial thump.
Later selections such as Ipso Facto by Kr!z and Metropolis (Manic Edit) by The Blunted Boy Wonder (aka Steve Stoll) continue the deep pressure, layered with textural evolution. Blaine Mason’s The Laugh keeps the atmosphere stark and minimal, allowing subtle shifts to dominate the groove.
Closing the session are Rising Sun by The Exaltics, remixed by Alden Tyrell & Serge, and Maybe Bali by USAW. These final cuts blend acid-tinged melodic elements with introspective rawness, rounding off this milestone 700th episode with a steady pulse of hypnotic techno that stays true to the show’s underground essence.
