Scientific Sound Asia has released the latest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 694, presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a prominent electronic music platform, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia continues to champion the underground scene across Asia and beyond.

Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been a committed figure in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection, ranging from vinyl and cassette to CDs and digital formats, reflects a deep, ongoing dedication to exploring sound in all its forms.

Throughout his career, Joshua has delved into a wide variety of styles, including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave culture began to wane in the late 1990s, he remained active in shaping local underground scenes by collaborating with other artists and launching events in intimate venues, helping to sustain and grow the culture from the ground up.

After taking a break from performing and broadcasting to focus on family life, Joshua found his passion rekindled as his daughter grew older. This marked the beginning of Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show designed to reflect his renewed energy and artistic focus.

In 2023, Joshua broadened his musical expression through original production work under several aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, each highlighting different aspects of his sound, from deep melodic layers to stripped-down minimalism and experimental tones.

In early 2024, he launched his own imprint, JFLM Recordings, with the aim of giving a home to his expanding discography and artistic vision. The label also acts as a hub for creative exploration, allowing Joshua to maintain an influential presence in the international electronic music scene through a consistent output of curated and original works.

Floating Beats 694 opens with DCLVIII OFC’s “TBONTB”, setting an atmospheric tone with melodic synth work grounded in the structure of Melodic Techno. Danny Howells follows with “Stereodrama”, easing into a Deep House flow that balances warmth and groove. Acitone then shifts the energy with “Paradise Lost”, the first of many tracks leaning into Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Techno, establishing a darker, more immersive midsection.

Fundamental Harmonics’ “Plasmodesma” introduces a subtle Minimal / Deep Tech structure before Ian O’Donovan’s “Samhain” injects energy with a more Peak Time feel. Marco Bailey’s “Morph” continues the hypnotic intensity with mechanical precision, while Vince Watson’s “Spirals” offers a melodic breather, weaving in arpeggios and harmonic textures from the Melodic House & Techno spectrum.

Matthias Tanzmann & Black Circle’s “Procession” brings a bold Tech House groove, creating a transitional bridge before returning to deep hypnotic territory. Salbany’s “Crossroads” (Cisco Ferreira Lisbon Dub Remix) and Moy Santana’s “Ariake” both dig deeper into heads-down Techno territory, with layers of delay and modulation. Gentian’s “Nothing Else Of Value” further expands this direction, maintaining the cerebral mood.

The session concludes with a shift into Progressive House as Aubrey Fry’s “Begone” (Nick Stoynoff Remix) introduces cleaner melodic phrasing and rhythmic restraint. This closing track gently releases the tension built through the set, finishing Floating Beats 694 with reflection and sonic clarity.

Don't forget to catch his live radio show on Monday, June 9th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, a replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
