Scientific Sound Asia has revealed the latest playlist for DJ Joshua’s radio show, Floating Beats 690. As a radio station, DJ agency, and promoter, Scientific Sound Asia plays a vital role in supporting and developing the electronic music community across the region and internationally.
DJ Joshua, based in Évora, Portugal, has been an influential presence in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His vast personal archive of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes reflects a deep and enduring passion for the genre.
Throughout his career, he has explored a range of styles including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the decline of the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained dedicated to his craft. He developed innovative approaches to production and distribution and collaborated with fellow artists to host events in clubs and bars, turning these spaces into key venues for electronic music culture.
After the birth of his child, Joshua took a step back from live events and radio to prioritise his family. As his daughter grew older, his passion for music was reignited, leading to the launch of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show, marking his return to the scene with renewed focus.
In 2023, Joshua delved deeper into music production, adopting several aliases to explore different creative directions. Under the names K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released a diverse catalogue of tracks, each reflecting its own distinct style and influence.
In January 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings to support his expanding output and to offer a platform for his wide-ranging musical expressions. Through the label, Joshua continues to engage actively with the global electronic music community, delivering a body of work that showcases both his versatility and commitment to the art form.
Floating Beats 690 opens with Estroe’s haunting "I See You" and Atapy’s stripped-down groove "Triangle," laying a minimal, tech-forward foundation. Livio & Roby’s "Ananda" continues the momentum with hypnotic percussion before Frankey & Sandrino’s "Cephei" adds warmth through lush Deep House textures.
As the set builds, Sasha’s "Vapourspace" elevates the energy with melodic tension, paving the way for the darker hues of Jules Wells & Laurent Maldo’s "The Lighthouse" in a powerful Madben remix. Techno luminaries Scan X and Laurent Garnier follow with the driving force of "Everyday Life," merging classic production with modern flair.
The peak time Techno energy surges with Gregor Tresher’s "Nightcolors" remix and Lionel Weets' "Solar Exploration," both delivering dancefloor pressure. Ian O'Donovan shifts gears slightly with "Foehn," reintroducing House motifs and melodic uplift.
Closing the flashback, Madben’s "Danse Bleue" and David Alvarado’s dubby classic "Blue" bring depth and introspection, completing a well-balanced and expertly curated homage to 2013’s underground sounds. DJ Joshua’s throwback mix proves timeless grooves never fade.
Don't forget to catch his live radio show on Monday, May 19th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't make it, you can hear the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
