Scientific Sound Asia has released the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements episode 248. As a leading entity in the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, significantly influencing the electronic music community in Asia.
Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been an influential figure in the electronic music scene for many years. His vast collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes underscores his lasting dedication to the genre.
Throughout his career, DJ Joshua has thrived in various genres, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the difficulties encountered by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained dedicated to electronic music.
In response to societal challenges and criticism, he devised innovative methods to produce and distribute his music. By frequently collaborating with other artists, he hosted events in clubs and bars, transforming them into key meeting places for House and Techno fans, thereby extending his impact well beyond his local area.
Following the birth of his child, DJ Joshua reduced his involvement in events and radio to focus on his family. Yet, as his daughter got older, his enthusiasm for music was reignited, leading him to launch the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This show is celebrated for its wide-ranging electronic music collection, highlighting Joshua's outstanding mixing skills, careful track choices, and emotional journey through different genres.
His long-running weekly show, Floating Beats, offered him a creative outlet to delve into calming progressive sounds, blended with melodic and techno influences. During that period, DJ Joshua was excited to launch a second show as part of this musical adventure: Velvety Elements. This new segment focused solely on the gentler aspects of House music, enhanced with complex layered elements meant to provide a smooth listening experience that engaged the senses.
DJ Joshua views music as a spiritual sanctuary, guiding listeners on a sonic adventure that transcends conventional artistic limits. In January 2024, he broadened his artistic influence by establishing JFLM Recordings, a record label aimed at highlighting his creations and bolstering his production endeavours.
DJ Joshua kicks off this episode of Velvety Elements with a mesmerising mix of Minimal and Tech House. Opening with Rui Da Silva’s hypnotic minimal groove, the set smoothly transitions into the bouncing energy of Eat Dust’s ‘Rockin Sneakers’ and the tech-driven sounds of Ray Okpara’s ‘Take Me Back’.
