DJ Joshua has released the track-lists for his weekly ‘Floating Beats’ and ‘Velvety Elements’ shows. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station and DJ Agency for the region with an international following.

DJ Joshua, also known under his moniker Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ and producer from Évora whose passion for electronic music has shaped more than three decades of steady artistic growth. A dedicated collector across vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats, he has preserved an extensive archive that reflects the breadth of House, Techno and other underground genres.

As a teenager, he gathered music obsessively, spending countless hours crate-digging through House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out, Techno and other emerging styles. These sessions were mirrored in his bedroom, where he spent even more time practising and refining his technique.

His early love for electronic music was difficult to pursue publicly, as the genre was barely represented on Portuguese radio during the nineties. After persistent outreach to local stations, he secured a series of radio residencies and began sharing his passion with a younger generation of listeners.

Joshua later expanded into hosting events, bringing his sound to clubs and bars while building a reputation within Portugal’s underground scene. When his first child was born, he chose to pause his musical work to focus on fatherhood, returning years later with renewed focus and direction.

This led to the creation of Floating Beats, a show that quickly developed a strong following through its melodic and expressive approach to House and Techno. Following its success, Joshua launched Velvety Elements, a second programme devoted to the deeper, warmer and more soulful corners of House Music.

Today, both Floating Beats and Velvety Elements air across multiple international platforms and continue to reach new listeners every week. Over the last few years, Joshua has also expanded his creative footprint through his production aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, each highlighting a different facet of his musical identity.

In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label aimed at showcasing his distinctive sound alongside the work of underground artists who value depth, musicality and authenticity. Recent releases underline this new chapter.

His Nobody Waiting For Me EP as Joshua Marian arrived on Back to the Beat in late 2024, followed by soulful singles such as Just Love and Chance With Soul, both reflecting his natural gift for emotive and groove-driven House. His 2025 release Light of Faith as K-Joshua, introduced a more introspective tone, shaped by deep house rhythms and gentle melodic phrasing.

Joshua summarises his ethos simply: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and fall onto your body—enjoy it.”

In his weekly shows, he explores a refined mixture of House and Techno sub-genres, frequently featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. Through both Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, he continues to evolve while maintaining a strong connection to the underground roots that shaped his journey.

The first hour opens with the warm textures of Going, Coming, setting a classic deep house tone before Carbon introduces a cleaner and more rhythmic flow. The Detroit echo of Diva in Detroit adds a distinct atmospheric lift, while Easy Rider deepens the groove with Dilby’s signature rolling patterns.

Marcelo Castelli follows with God Became Man, bringing a tribal undercurrent that flows smoothly into the melodic uplift of Rapture. As the hour progresses, the gentle motion of Composition and the reflective feel of Vale widen the sound palette before Vince Watson’s Universal Language provides a standout Detroit moment. The section closes with the emotive glide of Siana and the deeper introspection of Temporary.

The second hour begins with Atjazz’s rework of Transcendence, offering spacious percussion and soulful movement before Just Believe shifts toward classic deep house warmth. The Future of Music and Sopheaktra add subtle minimal influences, while Second Nature and Tei introduce a more percussive character.

Amy Dabbs lifts the mood with the bright bounce of Places, followed by Franck Roger’s Get It On, which grounds the mix in rich underground house. Tracks like Grounding Contact and I Just Want 2 Say keep the rhythm tight and energetic, and Chris Stussy’s Deviant Shadow brings a modern deep tech swing. The session closes with the Detroit-rooted depth of A Message for the DJ, a reflective finish that ties both hours together.

Across both halves, the mix showcases DJ Joshua’s ability to bridge deep house, Detroit sensibilities and contemporary minimal-influenced grooves, creating a cohesive and immersive journey through underground house music.
