Scientific Sound Asia is pleased to welcome Blaze DJ for the 25th episode of Ministry of Breaks on our station. As Asia’s leading electronic music radio, DJ agency, and promoter, we continue to support boundary-pushing artists across the region and beyond.
Blaze DJ is a British DJ and producer from Walthamstow, East London, whose entire life has been immersed in underground music and DJ culture. With a long-standing career that spans over three decades, his commitment to the craft goes far beyond the so-called 10,000-hour rule. Blaze has dedicated countless hours to perfecting his skill, resulting in an almost intuitive relationship with the decks, his music, and the dancefloor.
Growing up in a musically rich household, Blaze DJ credits his family as his earliest influence. He was exposed to an eclectic mix of genres, including Jazz, Funk, Disco, New Romantic, and 1980s synth-pop. However, everything changed in 1987 when he first heard House Sounds of Chicago Volume 1 on cassette. That moment sparked a lifelong passion for house music that would shape not only his nightlife but his entire professional journey.
By the age of 15, Blaze was already DJing at pubs in Edmonton, and soon after he secured residencies in places like Birmingham and Faliraki, performing in front of crowds of up to 2,000 people. As part of the original Acid House generation, he considers himself fortunate to have experienced the rise of the UK’s electronic music scene firsthand. Decades later, he still brings the same energy and excitement to his sets as he did in the early 1990s.
Blaze DJ’s style blends classic house with breakbeats, touches of acid, and elements of techno. His sound is a reflection of years spent absorbing musical influences from different eras and scenes. He has also contributed to the scene off the dancefloor, having worked in DJ shops and becoming the first UK retailer to combine DJ and production equipment under one roof. His work helped redefine music retail for the electronic community.
In 2005, Blaze stepped back from performing and focused on work as an audio-visual designer and consultant, helping to build sound systems for some of the most iconic clubs worldwide. But after a 15-year break, his passion returned, reigniting his desire to DJ and produce. Since his comeback, Blaze DJ has secured monthly shows on Ibiza Club News, Underground Kollektiv, and Scientific Sound Asia.
Now armed with a catalogue of unreleased tracks, he has been releasing music under Industrial Force and Zeta Records. He remains one of the most active figures in the global breaks scene, with a 30-year career that continues to evolve.
His Ministry of Breaks brand has grown steadily over the past two years and is now known for its distinctive mix of breaks, bass, and bleeps. New releases are on the horizon for the coming winter, following recent tracks like Acid Disco (22 June 2023), Let the Record Spin (30 June 2023), and Magma (30 June 2023).
Blaze DJ has also relaunched his YouTube channel and the Ministry of Breaks channel, alongside his Breaks n Bass events. With the recent launch of the Ministry of Breaks record label, distributed via SoundCloud, Blaze is once again making waves in the underground scene, bringing a fresh energy to every performance and release.
Blaze DJ launches Episode 25 of Ministry of Breaks with To the Beat 1.5, laying down an energetic Breaks / Breakbeat groove. Rob Cokeless follows with I Found the Truth, blending deep bass and rhythmic clarity, while Dave Gluskin’s Oblivious continues the fusion of Breaks and UK Bass in a melodic yet punchy arrangement. Layzie’s Brighter Future on Nervous Records delivers a slick, club-ready Breakbeat anthem with layered vocal chops and skittering percussion.
Midway, Blaze explores darker textures. Electricity by MKII and The Next Step by Lowco bring a more brooding D&B and bassline energy, with dynamic structure and growling subs. A soulful shift emerges with Debba’s Bandcamp edit of Say My Name and the classic Tour De France Etape 2 by Kraftwerk. Feed Your Soul (GM) and Fire It Up edge towards Electro, showcasing synth-driven flourishes and clean low-end rhythms, a signature trait of the Electro (Classic / Detroit / Modern) sound.
As the mix progresses, UK Garage vibes intensify. Rinse Sound by FM-3 and COME ON by CODE BREAKERZ infuse bouncing 2-step rhythms and vocal loops, while Life’s A Bitch by SUB-X adds a Bass House flavour with deep basslines and crisp highs. Classic Breakbeat reworks by artists like Krafty Kuts and The Darrow Chem Syndicate add nostalgia with raw, rolling breaks and big energy.
Blaze wraps things up with harder Breaks from the likes of GreenFlamez and MBreaks, capping off a diverse and bass-driven episode. This instalment celebrates everything from UK Bass to Electro to Bass House, showing why Breakbeat remains at the core of underground club culture. Expect a sharp mix of breakbeat music, bass house DJs, and the raw power of electronic club beats.
