Bicycle Corporation has announced the playlist for their latest Roots episode 161, continuing their long-running series on Scientific Sound Asia, the Asian-based electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter that connects global audiences to underground sounds across the region and beyond.

Formed by Italian duo Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, Bicycle Corporation bridges traditional musical craftsmanship with electronic innovation. With over 50 original tracks and remixes spanning Deep House, Techno, French House, and Disco, the pair have established a sound that blends rhythm, groove, and melodic sophistication.

Marco’s journey began in the early 1990s amid the underground clubs and record stores of Turin, Italy. As a founding member of the influential Urban People collective, he helped shape Italy’s emerging house scene, later earning a prestigious residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh. His international career has since taken him across continents, performing at clubs and festivals in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Stefano, a classically trained pianist and percussionist from Torino, was inspired by both Chopin’s romantic compositions and the pulse of West African drumming. His fascination with early electronic radio culture in the ’90s led him to experiment with production, eventually meeting Marco and forming Bicycle Corporation, a partnership rooted in musical depth and global perspective.

Over the past decade, the duo have remained dedicated to their craft, exploring the intersections of Afrobeat, Funk, Disco, and Electronic music. Their Roots series celebrates these influences, revisiting the origins of dance music while connecting them to contemporary sound. In recent months, Bicycle Corporation have reissued several early works on their official Bandcamp page, offering fans access to remastered versions of long out-of-print tracks.

Bicycle Corporation Roots 161 opens with the bright and rhythmic feel of Ezra Collective’s No Confusion, blending hip hop with jazz-driven energy. The Afro influence continues through Dem Know and the shimmering arrangement of Lady, both offering warm horns and fluid groove. As the set grows, the mix leans into disco-centred edits like Africa and Anikana, bringing an uplifting atmosphere shaped by percussion, vocal refrains and classic dancefloor heritage.

The midsection moves into deeper funk and disco textures, with tracks such as James, A.I.E. A Mwana and Get It Together creating a lively section built on bassline swing and bright rhythm guitar. Here Comes That Sound Again and Off Beats reinforce this tone through layered edits, while Don’t Let Go adds an Italo-Disco inspired touch. Calypso Breakdown and Beat Down shift the groove once more, introducing jazz funk and Latin influences that expand the sonic palette without losing momentum.

Energy evolves again as A Ka Titine moves the set into deep house territory, combining classic Caribbean flair with contemporary production. The leftfield textures of Bottom and the tribal elements of Jingo introduce a percussive edge, followed by the earthy tones of Stebeniest, which brings a grounded folk character into the mix. Circo Marimbondo softens the atmosphere with soulful funk, giving space before lifting back into the disco spectrum.

The final stretch delivers a warm blend of classic and modern elements through BraziLego, Young Embrace and the tribal deep house of Makussa. Closing with Disco Hoping, the mix ends in pure nu disco brightness, tying together the global character and rhythmic variety that define Roots. Episode 161 is a vibrant celebration of Afro diaspora music, deep edits and timeless disco connections, crafted with Bicycle Corporation’s signature touch.
