Bicycle Corporation publish the tracklist for 'Roots' 148.

Bicycle Corporation has released the playlist for episode 148 of their long-running 'Roots' radio show. Scientific Sound Asia, the platform hosting the series, is an Asian-based electronic music station, DJ agency, and events company that promotes underground sounds across the region and beyond.

Bicycle Corporation is the collaborative project of Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and fellow countryman Stefano Ugliano, also known by his production alias 6884. Marco began his musical career in the early 1990s, organising events across Italy as part of the Urban People collective.

His work within Italy’s club scene eventually earned him a residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where his profile grew significantly. Following this pivotal residency, Marco embarked on an international DJ career, performing at respected venues and festivals around the world.

His dynamic sets and deep knowledge of House, Techno, and related genres have made him a regular name on the global circuit. He has recently released original tracks on our label, Scientific Sound Records.

Stefano Ugliano, based in Torino, demonstrated strong musical talent from an early age. He trained in classical piano, percussion, and drums, developing a deep appreciation for everything from compositions by Chopin to West African rhythms.

As a teenager, his passion for electronic music took hold, inspiring him to experiment with production at a time when electronic genres were still relatively hard to access in Italy. He was fascinated with the image of the DJ [performing those very electronic sounds.

The two artists met in the late 2000s and soon formed Bicycle Corporation, a project that has since seen them release dozens of tracks and remixes spanning House, Techno, Deep House, and more. Recently, many of their earlier works came out of contract, prompting them to launch a Bandcamp page to make their back catalogue available once again.

Episode 148 of Roots opens with a rich flow of Afro House, beginning with Ashewo Ara by Kabbala in Dave Lee’s Afro-Fusion Mix. The vibe continues through Moplen’s take on Afrika System’s Anikana O and Themba’s collaboration with Fela Kuti on Zombie, delivering rhythmic depth and percussive drive. Ashley Beedle’s re-edit of Long Train Runnin’ by Panama and the Doobie Brothers adds a Disco Soul twist before moving into Nu Disco territory.

Mitiko and Manuel Kim bring the groove-heavy funk with edits of Bohannon and The Fatback Band, while King Sunny Ade’s Synchro System gets reworked by Themba with infectious Afro percussion. Jolly Mare’s lift of Piero Umiliani’s Discomania brings pure retro Disco bliss, and the mysterious G Promo Only keeps things raw with a deep Soul/Funk/Disco blend.

Dub and Disco meet with the Idjut Boys and Bohannon on Pastrami Machine, followed by Electronic Funk from Bumblebee Unlimited’s Lady Bug in RDJ’s 1989 re-edit. Funk stylings dominate with Marvin & Guy’s take on Woman by Barrabas and Dino Soccio’s vintage-tinged Elegance Edit. The show flows on with more rare edits, including Frank Booker’s revision of Dance Lady Dance and Jingo’s soulful take on Candido’s Little Thoughts.

The set closes with genre-crossing reworks, like Pilooski’s edit of Cat Stevens’ Was Dog A Doughnut and Opolopo’s future jazz twist on Ernie Watts & Gilberto Gil’s Gondwana. Sun Rhythms, Hotmood with Manu Dibango, and Robby Bergmann’s James Brown remix round off the session with Nu Disco, Afro-influenced grooves, and classic Funk, wrapping up another eclectic Roots episode from Bicycle Corporation.
