Bicycle Corporation welcomes guest DJ Brendon P for episode 151 of their ‘Roots’ series on Scientific Sound Asia. Based in Asia and broadcasting globally, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a key platform for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and regional talent.
Bicycle Corporation is the collaborative project of Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and his studio partner Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released over 50 original tracks and remixes spanning genres such as Deep House, Tech House, French House, Melodic, and Techno.
Marco began his career in the early 1990s, cutting his teeth at local parties before forming the Urban People collective. Their events spread across Italy, earning Marco a strong reputation and eventually securing him a residency at the world-renowned Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. From there, he took his sound international, performing across Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Stefano, born in Torino, showed musical promise from an early age. Trained in classical piano, percussion, and drums, he was equally inspired by composers like Chopin and the rhythms of West African Djembe. But it was the allure of electronic beats, rarely heard on Italian radio in the ’90s, that captured his imagination and eventually led him to join forces with Marco to form Bicycle Corporation.
Despite their international success, the duo have stayed true to their beginnings. They’ve recently revisited their early productions and launched a Bandcamp page to make these foundational works accessible to new audiences. Through their ‘Roots’ series, they continue to highlight respected DJs and producers throughout Asia, celebrating the diverse influences that shape today’s underground electronic music scene.

Guest DJ Brendon P.
DJ Brendon P, born Brendon Perera, is a veteran Singaporean DJ whose career spans over four decades. Known for his understated and lo-fi approach, he remains a respected figure in both local and international club scenes.
His journey began in 1980 on the mobile DJ circuit in Singapore before transitioning to clubs the following year. A pivotal trip to New York in 1984, where he experienced legendary venues like The Funhouse, Paradise Garage, Danceteria, and Area, exposed him to the pulse of the city's club culture and helped shape his love for house music as it was evolving.
Over the years, Brendon has cultivated a deep understanding of dance music, drawing from a broad sonic palette that includes House, Techno, Disco, Nu Disco, Funk, Soul, Lounge, and Electronica. His sets reflect a mature ear for quality, developed through countless hours behind the decks in diverse venues across the globe.
In the 1980s and ’90s, he held key residencies with Juliana’s, Bacchus, Neo Pharaohs, Venom, and NOX, later moving on to a notable 9-year residency at Singapore’s iconic Zouk Club. From 2001 to 2009, he was also a resident at Club Kyo and, more recently, spent six years as part of the resident team at CE LA VI Rooftop Club & Skybar atop Marina Bay Sands.
Brendon has played extensively abroad, with sets in cities such as Geneva, Gothenburg, Melbourne, London, New York, Miami, Hanoi, Taipei, and Hong Kong. A highlight of his international journey includes a performance at the famed (and now-closed) Cielo Club in New York in June 2010.
As a producer, Brendon has released original tracks and remixes on respected labels including In The Woods (USA), Los Grandes (Spain), Reversoulmusic (USA), Audio Parallax (UK), Soul Shift (USA), Defected (UK), and local imprints like Rawjak, Eclesia, and One With Music.
Praised by industry peers for his refined taste and stylistic integrity, Brendon P continues to deliver sets that bridge the past, present, and future of dance music with class and depth. As Nicolas Matar, owner of New York’s Cielo and Output, put it, he is a true “taste master” and one of the finest DJs in the region.
DJ Brendon P opens Roots 151 with the laid-back groove of Private Life by Sleazy McQueen & Romano Arcaini, warming the floor with modern edits rooted in disco sensibilities. Phil Asher’s Hope brings depth and soul, bridging into Afro-tinged rhythms with Kete by Tigerbalm, remixed by Mang Dynasty. This hour builds around lush arrangements and jazz-funk textures, weaving Daniel Wang’s DSDN and In Flagranti’s Raw Substance into an eclectic early journey through house-inflected disco, nu jazz, and Latin flavours.
The midpoint embraces pure disco and boogie with standout reworks like The Rah Band’s Messages From The Stars (Atjazz Re-Edit) and Talc’s De Gui Ding (The Reflex Revision). These reinterpretations stay true to their disco and funk roots while offering modern production clarity. Sing Sing by Gaz (The Reflex Revision) hits with break-heavy energy, making way for soulful burners like I Know You, I Live You by Chaka Khan, reimagined by Moplen, and The Temptations’ Treat Her Like A Lady, edited with groove-forward flair.
Afrobeat and Latin sounds emerge in the third section, with Nosi Zole by Captain Planet and Da Lata’s Um Amor A Mais lifting the rhythm into the global sphere. The show travels further with Carl Craig’s remix of Tony Allen’s Kilode, infusing deep Afro House and Detroit techno sensibilities while retaining percussive warmth. Edits of Long Train Runnin’ and Can You Feel The Force inject classic energy, re-contextualised for modern floors.
In the final act, Brendon P features funk-soul staples like Aretha Franklin’s Happy Blues and Sly & The Family Stone’s Dance To The Music in Reflex versions that honour the originals while subtly enhancing their drive. The show closes with the jazzy house anthem Wesley Music by RSL, tying together disco’s spirit, Afrobeat’s rhythm, and the soulful roots that connect them all. This episode showcases DJ Brendon P’s mastery at blending eras and genres into a timeless, feel-good journey.
