Bicycle Corporation introduces guest DJ Bipolar Bear for his inaugural 'Roots' show. Scientific Sound Asia, an electronic music station, promoter, and DJ agency, serves the Asian region and reaches audiences globally.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo comprising DJ and producer Marco Mei and the skilled Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Marco began his musical journey in the early nineties as a DJ and producer.

Over time, he initiated his own events under the collective 'Urban People' across Italy, gaining notoriety and securing a residency at Pacha. This opportunity led to international bookings, launching him on a global musical endeavor.

Stefano, raised in Torino, Italy, displayed a multitude of musical talents from an early age. He passionately studied classical piano, percussion, and drums, with a particular affinity for Chopin and West African Djembes.

However, the image of the DJ performing on stage became increasingly captivating for the teenage Stefano. He wondered if those elusive electronic beats, seldom heard on 1990s Italian radio stations, would usher in a new chapter in his life, leading to the birth of Bicycle Corporation.

Their weekly Roots show features popular DJs and producers from the region. This show showcases the afrocentric and global sounds that shape electronic music.

This week's guest DJ is Bipolar Bear, whose real name is Catalin Stefan Paunescu, a Romanian artist hailing from the provincial city of Craiova in the country's south. Growing up in such a small city presented challenges for the teenage Stefan, as options for acquiring cutting-edge music were limited, especially in a region where musical influences were predominantly drawn from MTV.

Fortunately, with the advent and development of the internet, Stefan quenched his thirst for diverse genres, observing the digital revolution of music unfold. With a genuine passion for producing and playing high-quality music, he enjoys crafting eclectic sets that aim to take the audience on a musical journey he orchestrates. His goal is to spread positive energy, and his enthusiasm is infectious.

After leaving Romania, Stefan immersed himself in Manchester's rich music scene, both as a DJ and producer. His project, Odwana—a blend of electronic dance music infused with world sounds, African percussion, and empowering vocals—made waves on the UK festival scene, marking a new chapter in his career.

In early 2019, he relocated to Da Nang, Vietnam, establishing the party brand Badaboom alongside fellow DJ G Nomad, aiming to elevate the party scene in Central Vietnam. Their primary desire was to share the joys of music with a community of like-minded individuals. As a DJ, Stefan draws inspiration from world music and the groovy sounds of the '70s and '80s, blending them with contemporary House and Electro, adding a splash of Disco for the hip-shakers.

Since 2019, Da Nang, Vietnam, has become his new home base. A tireless advocate of the local scene, Bipolar Bear promotes events, curates lineups, and DJs across various venues, contributing significantly to the region's vibrant music culture.

Bipolar Bear curates a dynamic genre-crossing selection for Roots 137, fusing Afro House, Nu Disco, Soulful House, and Jazzy Grooves into a rich, deep mix. The journey kicks off with Jamie 3:26’s "A Side of Soul", setting the soulful tone, followed by Benny Sings' "Passionfruit", blending Indie Soul with smooth melodies.

Moving into House & Nu Disco, Bamily’s "Party Woman" (Crazy P Remix) and Baltra’s "Sunset Jam" introduce vibrant grooves with warm, deep textures. The soulful energy continues with Dave Lee’s "Garden of Love" (Dam Swindle Remix) and Shuya Okino’s "Still In Love" (The Reflex Extended Revision), both delivering classic-inspired house with a modern twist.

The second half moves deeper into Afro House & Latin rhythms, with Digital Afrika’s "Kings for a Minute", Emmaculate’s "Higher Vibrations" (Mac’s Afro Sax Mix), and DASCO’s "African Power", creating a rhythmic, percussive flow. Cesária Évora’s "Angola" (Electricano Edit) brings a Latin-infused groove, adding an organic, worldly feel.

Closing the mix, Raphael Saadiq feat. Q-Tip’s "Involved" (DSO Edit) delivers a Hip Soul fusion, while Lord & Kaidi’s "Une Journée Ensoleillée" and Soufflé Caramel’s "Smoothy Busy Cool" round out the set with Jazzy House & Deep Soulful House flavors. This episode is a must-listen for lovers of deep, groovy, and soulful beats!
