L-J Louis has released the playlist for Enchanted Rhythms episode 2. Scientific Sound Asia Radio is an electronic music station, promoter and DJ agency for Asia and the wider international community.
L-J Louis is a London-born, Melbourne-based DJ who has been refining his craft for over two decades. He first cut his teeth at house parties and warehouse events in the early 2000s, where he and his friends would take turns on the decks and microphone, developing the technical and instinctive skills that still define his sets today.
Growing up, his musical influences were broad and deeply rooted in groove-driven styles. Acts such as Soul II Soul, Mood II Swing, Masters at Work and 90s R&B shaped his early understanding of rhythm and melody. At the same time, he gravitated toward the dubbier side of House and Garage, drawing inspiration from artists like Dem 2, El-B and Steve Gurley, while dipping into Drum and Bass and early Dubstep when the moment called for it.
This eclectic taste and wide musical vocabulary led him to spend years playing local gigs across Melbourne, where he supported a long list of influential artists, including Zed Bias, MJ Cole, Joe Nice, Seven, Addison Groove, Deadboy, Kryptic Minds, Mark Pritchard and others. During this period, he also hosted weekly radio shows on Sub FM and Kiss FM Melbourne, crafting his sound and connecting with a dedicated audience.
Now, with a matured artistic identity and an obsession for seamless blends, L-J Louis delivers sets that move effortlessly between Deep Soulful House, Garage and the dub-leaning edges of House Music. His selections reflect both his history and his continued evolution as a DJ.
The episode opens with warm House influences as Claude VonStroke sets an atmospheric tone before the Yoruba Soul and King Britt reworks bring soulful, broken-beat rhythms into the flow. These early selections shape a smooth and expressive start, balancing groove-led percussion with rich harmonic touches.
As the mix develops, L-J Louis moves into deeper House territory with tracks from Demuja, Franche and Kerri Chandler, each adding a classic analogue warmth. Rodriguez Jr and East End Dubs introduce a more contemporary edge, blending subtle progressive colours with detailed, modern percussion that keeps the set moving with intention.
Midway through, the energy shifts with selections from Dirtytwo, CRST and DJ Zinc, weaving garage-inspired basslines and sharp breakbeat sensibilities into the session. These rhythmically playful choices open the mix into a brighter, more kinetic space while still holding onto its underlying House foundation. Calibre’s atmospheric style briefly reshapes the pace, offering a reflective pause before returning to the groove.
The closing stretch reconnects with deep textures courtesy of Pete Dafeel, De La Swing and Kerri Chandler, grounding the session with soulful melodies and club-ready flow. L-J Louis closes the mix by settling back into warm, classic House shapes, creating a cohesive journey that blends soulful, deep and UK-influenced selections with smooth continuity.
