Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Staying true to the station’s mission of connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series celebrates house music in its most soulful, groove-driven, and emotionally expressive forms.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been a devoted figure in electronic music since the 1990s. His vast archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital releases reflects decades of passion for sound and a deep respect for underground culture. While he has explored genres such as techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house music has always remained central to his creative vision.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped sustain its movement by organising grassroots events and encouraging collaboration among DJs and producers. After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned with renewed purpose, launching Floating Beats, recognised for its melodic and immersive tone, followed by Velvety Elements, which delves into the deeper and more soulful layers of house.

Producing under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores multiple dimensions of his sound, from percussive minimal grooves to melodic and emotive house. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label built to showcase his productions alongside emerging underground talent focused on warmth, depth, and authenticity.

Recent highlights include the Nobody Waiting For Me EP as Joshua Marian, released on Back to the Beat in late 2024, featuring the organ-led title track alongside the nostalgic I Love You. Other key works, such as Just Love and Chance With Soul, continue to reflect his ability to merge soulful energy with refined musical craftsmanship.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to evolve his artistic vision, offering a space where rhythm, warmth, and sincerity meet. Each episode provides a deeply human listening experience that embodies the timeless heart and unity of house music.

DJ Joshua begins Velvety Elements 286 with D’Julz’s Nudeep, setting a rich foundation of deep textures and subtle rhythm. Wisdom of the Stingrays by Black Eyes adds a soulful undercurrent before Kevin Yost’s Opposites deepens the mood with elegant basslines and smooth percussion. Alton Miller’s Can’t Master bridges deep and classic house energy, while DJ Deep’s Sunday Loop expands into meditative territory.

Franck Roger’s Can U Believe and Reedale Rise’s Heliopolis introduce warm pads and fluid synth progressions that define the midsection’s hypnotic tone. Gas In My Blunt by Slugg injects a minimalist pulse with refined drive, shifting gently toward modern underground textures while maintaining the show’s smooth continuity.

The energy remains fluid as Lake Fishin by DJ Sneak layers groove and bounce through deep percussion and funk-rooted rhythms. David Böning’s Joes Groove reintroduces an uplifting classic house feel, while G-Falex’s Lemonade For Gods dives back into atmospheric depth with steady melodic phrasing.

Closing with Riddin’ High (Ian Pooley Remix) by Phil & Dan, DJ Joshua ties the episode together with soulful warmth and deep rhythmic flow. Velvety Elements 286 encapsulates his ongoing dedication to the deep house sound, balancing timeless groove with thoughtful progression and immersive detail.

Don't forget to catch his live radio show on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
