Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for a new edition of Velvety Elements, the radio series curated by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a respected platform for electronic music, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia continues to champion underground talent across Asia and beyond.

Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been active in the electronic music scene since the 1990s. His vast collection, spanning vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats, reflects a deep-rooted passion for sound. While he has explored genres such as Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has consistently remained at the heart of his creative focus.

During a time when Portugal’s underground scene faced cultural and structural challenges, Joshua played an important role in sustaining its momentum. He supported the scene through organising events, fostering collaborations, and contributing to local initiatives that helped shape a lasting community around House and Techno.

After taking a break to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed artistic drive. He launched Floating Beats, a show focused on melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which highlights smoother and groove-based styles of House music.

Using a range of aliases including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores different aspects of his musical identity, from minimalistic structures to soulful and rhythmic expressions. In early 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label that provides a home for his own work and supports artists who share his commitment to emotionally rich and refined House music.

Velvety Elements 271 opens with the classic House vibes of Pass It Around by DJ Sneak and Master of Hydro by Black Eyes, setting a groove-focused tone with upfront drums and no-nonsense funk. Anton Kubikov then transitions into a Deep House realm on 3 Magic Words, with DJ Pipe pulling it back to deeper jackin’ energy on Deeper Strainz.

Johannes Albert and Odee X keep the pressure rolling with raw, looping House on Maintain the Vibe and Culture (Dub), while Opcode Vision’s S900 dives further into a hypnotic Deep House space. Damian Rausch adds a touch of emotion to About Love, weaving minimal textures into warm grooves.

Joshua Marian (his alias) contributes Just Love, a clean and heartfelt House cut, before Don Swing’s Living House Music reinforces the show’s soulful direction with layered synths and a timeless vocal lift. Faber Italy’s Intruder delivers a tougher, classic rhythm, while Intr0beatz closes the mix in signature style on Get Down with smooth samples and deep swing.

This episode stays tightly focused, offering a seamless blend of House and Deep House selections. DJ Joshua maintains his refined ear for underground rhythm, crafting a set perfect for deep listening or late-night movement.
