Scientific Sound Asia has released the latest playlist for a new edition of Velvety Elements, the radio series curated by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a prominent electronic music platform, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia continues to support and promote underground talent throughout Asia and beyond.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been active in the electronic music scene since the 1990s. His extensive collection of music across vinyl, cassette, CD, and digital formats reflects a deep and long-standing dedication to sound. While his background includes Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House has remained the core of his artistic vision.
At a time when Portugal’s underground scene was challenged by cultural and structural shifts, Joshua played a key role in preserving its energy. He contributed through event organisation, creative partnerships, and local initiatives that laid the groundwork for a lasting community rooted in House and Techno.
After stepping away from the spotlight to focus on family, Joshua returned with a renewed sense of purpose. He launched Floating Beats, showcasing melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which leans into smoother, groove-based forms of House music.
Using multiple aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores different facets of his sound, from minimal approaches to soulful rhythms. In early 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label designed to house his creative output and support artists who share his dedication to refined, emotionally driven House music.
Velvety Elements 270 opens with warm and immersive Deep House from Nico Rothmann, followed by Greg Eversoul’s Can’t Stop in a deep remix by Hipp-E. The momentum continues with Finest Wear and Manuel Sahagun, who contribute smooth, rolling grooves that define the deeper end of the House spectrum.
Sven Wegner and Toronto Hustle, alongside Sean Roman and Javonntte, deepen the mood with soulful and rhythmic contributions. Their tracks are marked by lush pads, moody chords, and a solid understanding of dancefloor energy. Rick Wade’s After the Party and Bushwacka!’s Heaven On Earth add timeless kinetics, bridging old-school House sensibility with present-day production.
As the show progresses, Gary Tormack brings a punchy Tech House track with UAUA, while Steve Bug delivers tight, forward-driving grooves with Keep Movin’. These selections add a rhythmic shift that keeps the listener engaged and primed for movement.
In the final stretch, Hipp-E’s Stuck In The Wash and David Böning’s Joes Groove explore deeper Minimal and groove-based sounds. These closing selections maintain the vibe while gently winding down the set, concluding another rich journey through underground House from DJ Joshua.
