DJ Joshua has published the tracklists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station and DJ agency serving the region and an international audience.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese selector and producer from Évora with a deep-rooted passion for collecting electronic music. His vast library, built across vinyl, cassette, CD and digital formats, plays a central role in shaping his identity as a DJ. Growing up in Évora, his teenage years were defined by crate digging and discovering new sounds, developing an obsession that led him through house, drum and bass and chillout, with techno eventually becoming a key influence.
Like many DJs of the 1990s generation, he bought turntables and taught himself to mix, quickly becoming a committed vinyl enthusiast. He began sharing his love for electronic music through Portuguese radio stations, presenting wide-ranging selections from his collection while also playing at raves and underground gatherings organised with friends and fellow partygoers.
As his musical focus intensified, Portugal’s rave scene was beginning to grow, yet underground electronic music remained largely absent from local airwaves. Recognising the need for representation, Joshua pushed for media platforms that could support house and techno culture within his community, helping bring underground sounds to a wider audience.
Following the birth of his first child, Joshua stepped away from DJing to focus on family life. As his daughter grew older, the desire to reconnect with music returned, leading to the creation of Floating Beats. The show marked his re-entry into the scene and quickly gained international traction, reconnecting him with listeners and artists worldwide.
Building on this momentum, Joshua later launched Velvety Elements, a companion series dedicated to deeper, warmer and more soulful strands of house music. Both Floating Beats and Velvety Elements are now broadcast across multiple international platforms and stations, reflecting his broad musical vision and long-standing commitment to underground culture. As Joshua describes it, “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body.”
Alongside his radio work, Joshua has developed a steadily growing catalogue of original productions under several aliases. As Joshua Marian, he released the Nobody Waiting For Me EP in 2024, delivering organ-led, classic-influenced house through tracks such as Nobody Waiting For Me and I Love You. His groove-focused direction continued with Just Love and the 2025 release Chance With Soul, both rooted in soulful house traditions.
Under the K-Joshua alias, he explored deeper and more introspective territory with Light of Faith in 2025, blending deep house rhythm with melodic restraint. His Joshua Fernand project moved toward hypnotic and raw techno through the Logic Move EP, while Joshua Onairam has become the outlet for cinematic and melodic writing, including Melodic Doubts and the 2025 release Shiny Night, which highlights his growing interest in atmosphere and emotional storytelling.
In his weekly shows, Joshua presents a wide spectrum of house and techno, regularly featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. Through both his radio programming and ongoing studio work, DJ Joshua continues to refine a sound that balances musical depth, emotional flow and underground dancefloor energy.
