The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 708, is presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Scientific Sound Asia, a leading hub for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events across Asia, continues to highlight forward-thinking artists from around the world.
Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital media reflects a lifelong devotion to sound and an enduring commitment to underground culture.
Throughout his career, he has explored a wide spectrum of genres, from house and techno to drum and bass and chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave movement slowed in the late 1990s, Joshua remained active, organising grassroots events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers to sustain the spirit of the underground.
After a break to focus on family, he returned with renewed energy and launched Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that signalled his re-entry into DJing and broadcasting. Since then, it has become a respected platform for immersive, melodic electronic music with a loyal international audience.
In 2023, Joshua began releasing original productions under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, each representing a different facet of his creativity.
Furthering this vision, 2024 saw the launch of JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to showcasing his own productions alongside innovative new voices in underground music. With Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings, Joshua continues to enrich the global underground scene, delivering depth, diversity, and creativity to audiences worldwide.
Floating Beats 708 opens with Mark Hawkins’ Snow Day, setting a soulful and atmospheric deep house tone. The energy quickly pivots with Kaan Elitok’s Dolunay and Eddie Merced’s The Dossier, both pushing raw, hypnotic techno structures with stripped, rolling grooves. Nepotek’s Locked adds a minimal deep tech flavour, clean and precise in its delivery, while Eddie Niguel’s Solitude offers a more emotive deep house touch.
The mood deepens with Theobald Ringer’s Siana, layering hypnotic motifs over raw techno elements. Laurent Chanal’s The Sun Is Here brings a burst of uplifting progressive house energy, contrasted by Satoshi Fumi’s Lotus, which fuses melodic house & techno richness with a steady rhythmic pulse. Forteba’s Time on Time remix closes this segment with smooth deep house atmospheres and textured grooves.
The intensity rises again with Ian O'Donovan’s Rath Of The Synods, a peak-time techno selection full of energy and punch. Theobald Ringer returns with The Robots, a hypnotic techno cut evoking mechanical precision and minimalist structures. This raw drive continues the hypnotic thread while shifting towards a harder edge.
Closing the set, Funk D'Void and Berny’s Voyager in Monsieur Wolfgang’s remix delivers peak-time techno power, blending strong percussion with layered synths. This final track ties together the night’s blend of deep house, hypnotic techno, progressive house, and melodic house & techno, capturing DJ Joshua’s signature style on Floating Beats.
Make sure to listen to his live radio show on Monday, September 15th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you're unable to catch it, a replay will air on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
