Bicycle Corporation has released the tracklist for episode 146 of their 'Roots' series. Scientific Sound Asia, an electronic music station, DJ agency, and event organiser, continues to support underground sounds across Asia and beyond.

Bicycle Corporation is the Italian production duo of DJ and producer Marco Mei and accomplished musician Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have produced and remixed over 50 original tracks, working within a range of House and Techno subgenres.

Marco began his career in the early 1990s, curating Afro-inspired House and Techno events throughout Italy under the Urban People collective. His dedication and distinctive sound earned him a growing reputation, leading to a residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. This pivotal moment opened the door to international bookings and set the course for a global DJ career, during which Marco has performed alongside leading names in electronic music around the world.

Stefano, who hails from Torino, Italy, showed strong musical potential from a young age. Deeply committed to his craft, he studied classical piano, percussion, and drums while developing an appreciation for artists as diverse as Frédéric Chopin and the rhythmic traditions of West African Djembe.

As a teenager, he became captivated by the energy and technical artistry of DJing. With limited access to electronic music on Italian radio, he immersed himself in learning the tools of production. This passion would eventually bring him together with Marco to form Bicycle Corporation.

Following the end of licensing agreements on some of their earlier material, the duo has launched a Bandcamp page to make these tracks available to fans, highlighting their continued connection to the music that shaped their journey.

Episode 146 of the 'Roots' series offers a distinctive mix exploring the edges of Electronica, New Wave, and related genres. The selection draws from a rich archive of musical innovation and retro-futuristic sound, creating a listening experience that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

The episode opens with Bye Bye Papaye by Antena, a vibrant Latin-Synth hybrid with Bossa nova influences that sets a warm tone. Afro Band’s AEO adds tribal percussion to the mix before Cat Stevens’ experimental Was Dog A Doughnut brings early electronic textures into play, a track praised for its ahead-of-its-time use of synthesisers and beats.

Curt Cress’ The Indian Call continues with New Age fusion, followed by Data’s cold-wave favourite A-O (No Bungalow). The blend of styles builds toward David Bowie and Pat Metheny Group’s This Is Not America, a melancholic pop-rock gem known for its haunting saxophone and subtle political undercurrent. The disco pulse returns with Eddy Grant’s Time Warp and Harry Thumann’s aquatic-inspired Underwater, whose 12” mix has been a favourite on dancefloors since the early ’80s.

Hypnosis’ End Title (Blade Runner) reinterprets Vangelis with a heavy Italo-Disco twist, followed by Life In Tokyo by David Sylvian & Japan, bridging art-pop with disco. Jean-Michel Jarre’s Zoolookologie delivers a kaleidoscope of samples and vocoders, while Konk’s Your Life (Party Mix) injects raw, downtown electro funk. From Klein & M.B.O.’s Dirty Talk, often credited as a proto-house track, to Kraftwerk’s Tour de France (Francois Kevorkian Remix), the mix builds a narrative of electronic music’s global evolution.

The final stretch gets darker and more introspective. Laurie Anderson’s Oh Superman, here reinterpreted by M. Giordani, merges minimalism and political commentary. Tracks like Los Niños Del Parque by Liaisons Dangereuses and Funky Soul Makossa by Manu Dibango deliver early EBM and electro-hip hop hybrids, while Patrick Cowley’s Megatron Man showcases high-energy synth lines that helped define Hi-NRG.

Classics like 19 by Paul Hardcastle and Being Boiled by The Human League address themes of war and mechanisation, wrapped in synth textures. The final selections, including Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Plastic Bamboo, Mike Oldfield’s Incantations, and Anne Clark’s Our Darkness, weave between classical influences, spoken word, and synthesised sounds, concluding the episode with The End (Remix) by The Splash Band. Bicycle Corporation’s Roots 146 pays tribute to the experimental spirit that shaped electronic music history.
