DJ Marco Mei presents his New Show for November 2020 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
With almost thirty years of experience at the time of this programme, Marco Mei was an Italian DJ and producer with a long-standing interest in Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Disco, early Hip Hop and electronic music. He began DJing during the early 1990s, playing for audiences at venues across Italy.
His work at festivals and clubs around the world brought appearances alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh during the early 2000s led to further international touring.
Those dates included OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow. In the early 2010s, Marco relocated to Taipei, Taiwan, where he played regularly at clubs and venues throughout the city.
In 2009, Marco joined Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, to form the production duo Bicycle Corporation. Together, they made more than 50 tracks and remixes, receiving recognition from artists within the house music scene.
Marco's weekly selections span Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic House and Techno and Nu-Disco. He also features Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno alongside related electronic styles.
The November 2020 selection moves from Bonobo and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs' 6000ft. into Bedouin's Hologram on Cityfox. Caribou's Floating Points remix of Sister, released by City Slang, keeps the opening within deep house territory.
Computer Data's Healing on clipp.Art introduces House Music, followed by Angelina Rose's Broken Heart and Luksek's Alone At Sea on Night Young. Róisín Murphy's Loshmi edit of Let Me Know on Parlophone UK then brings a Dance Music accent to the early sequence.
The two Men I Trust edits, Break For Lovers and Lucky Sue, sit before Black Coffee's 10 Missed Calls, featuring Jozzy and Pharrell Williams, on Ultra Records. Thundercat's Floating Points remix of Fair Chance on Bleep adds an Ambient passage before Fish Go Deep and Emilie Chick's Travelling.
Deetron's Ego Rave B and Ego Rave C, both on Running Back, establish an indie dance section. Ego Rave D1 follows from the same label as DJ Tools / Acapellas material, shifting the pace before the later club-focused records.
Gerd Janson and Jacques Renault's Never Saw Never precedes SeeMeNot's Roman Flügel Acid Mix of Borderline on Defected. Booka Shade's 2020 rework of Teenage Spaceman on Blaufield Music and Krust's Masters At Work remix of Antigravity Love on Crosstown Rebels sharpen the set's rhythmic focus.
Goldie's Binary State remix of Inner City Life on London Records brings in Drum and Bass, before Celeda and Danny Tenaglia's Mike Isai edit of Be Yourself. Gettoblaster and Bad Boy Bill's Lovely Day on Lapsus Music, 4tune500's Camelphat remix of Dancing In The Dark, and The Martinez Brothers' Backyard Boogie on Cuttin' Headz close the programme with a deeper club finish.
Based in Taipei, Marco Mei works across a wider South East Asian network shaped by clubs, events and regional electronic music activity. He is available for bookings through the agency and broadcasts a weekly show through the radio station.
