Ezmun presents Cooking With Gas episode 08 on Scientific Sound Asia, a two-hour programme examining Black influence on the UK underground. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Cooking With Gas is Ezmun’s weekly programme of percussive, groove-led and dark music, curated by Ezmun. This full two-hour edition celebrates how Black producers, DJs and performers, alongside their cultures, have pioneered, influenced, shaped and grown many genres within the UK underground scene.

Ezmun’s Cooking With Gas episode 08 programme opens with Top Cat and Rebel MC’s Champion Deejay on Streetlife, establishing a foundation in Drum and Bass. Shy FX and Gunsmoke’s Gangsta Kid II on SOUR brings in Jungle before the selection develops further.
LTJ Bukem’s Orchestral Jam on Good Looking Records follows with Dillinja’s Sovereign Melody on Deep Jungle, placing two defining drum and bass records in close succession. Roni Size’s Only a Dream and It’s Jazzy, both from V Recordings, frame the early section with his own productions.
Goldie and Rufige Kru’s Terminator on London Music Stream gives way to Leviticus’s Burial on Soul Jazz Records, retaining the breakbeat pressure of the opening run. Chopstick Dubplate and Jah Mason’s Soundboy Gone, released through Chopstick Dubplate, introduces a vocal-led turn without leaving the programme’s bass-weighted focus.
Congo Natty’s UK Allstars on Jungle Cakes brings Rap/Hip Hop into the sequence before Skepta’s Doin’ It Again on Rinse shifts towards 140-focused Grime. Wiley’s Wot Do U Call It on XL Recordings adds an Electronica reference, while Kano’s Ps & Qs on Defenders Ent keeps the MC-led momentum in place.
JME’s Serious on Boy Better Know / Essential and D Double E’s Street Fighter Riddim on Rinse sharpen the grime section, with Fire Camp’s Shut Up on Defenders Ent following directly behind. Dizzee Rascal’s I Luv U on XL Recordings introduces Trap, and Nu Brand Flexxx’s Anthem on Avalanche Music returns to rap-focused material.
Tempa T’s Next Hype (Ashburner Remix) on No Hats No Hoods pushes the final stretch back towards grime before Mensah’s Pulse 80’s on HENCH brings in Dubstep. Benga and Coki’s Night on Tempa leads into The Bug, Killa P and Flowdan’s Skeng on Ninja Tune, closing the programme with a forceful vocal and bass-led finish.
