Velvety Elements 318 on Scientific Sound Asia welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running show. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been part of electronic music culture since the 1990s, developing a broad musical perspective across vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats. While his interests have extended into techno, drum and bass and chillout over the years, house music has always sat at the centre of his approach.
He remained active through quieter periods in Portugal's underground scene via event promotion, collaborations and support for local artists, before stepping back to focus on family. His return through Floating Beats re-established his presence in the radio community and provided a platform for deeper musical exploration.
Velvety Elements grew out of that same creative direction, focusing specifically on the warmer and more soulful side of house music. The show favours flowing grooves, rich textures and understated energy over immediate impact, building each episode around depth and continuity.
His studio output runs across several aliases. As Joshua Marian he works in deep house, with releases including Just Love, Express Your Voice, Ring For More, Go Slow and Sometimes I Think About appearing on labels such as Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda. The K Joshua alias moves into rawer territory, with Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and As You Are on Liberty Rhythm covering hypnotic techno, dub techno and ambient influences.
In 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative work, dedicated to underground electronic music and long-term artistic development.
Velvety Elements 318 opens with Demuir's Emotional Seasons in the Dub Mix on Makin' Moves, its Deep House warmth establishing the underground club tone from the outset. Franck Roger's Mister Henderson on Real Tone Records follows, the French producer's characteristically soulful approach sitting naturally within the set's opening mood.
Hipp-E's Strange Daze in Hank's Full House Extended Mix on Kopa Records and Gorge's Beat Trippin' on 8Bit carry the set forward with a consistent groove-led quality. Pinto (NYC)'s Set Me Free in a Joshua Marian Unofficial Remix on Purveyor Underground then introduces the first House Music moment, DJ Joshua placing his own rework here as a personal statement within the set.
Marco Lys, Lovely Laura and Ben Santiago's Real Love on Nervous Records and Markus Homm's Got to Make it on 8Bit sustain the warm, groove-conscious direction through the mid-section. Lulah Francs's Diversion Ends in the Cinthie Remix on Big Trouble Records follows before Tommy Green's Come Back 2 Me in the Joshua Marian Remix on Promo gives DJ Joshua a second personal moment in the tracklist.
Nick Curly's Luv U on 8Bit, DJ Swella's Letting You Know on Clone Royal Oak and Frederique NYE's Hurricane Murphy on Houseworx close the episode across a run of consistently warm and underground selections. Velvety Elements 318 is a focused and groove-driven piece of programming, DJ Joshua drawing from a tight network of Deep House and House labels to build a set that holds its warmth and underground character from first track to last.
Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time. If you miss the broadcast, a replay is available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. ICT.
