DJ Joshua announces his track list for Velvety Elements 284.

Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. In line with the station’s commitment to connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond, the series celebrates house music in its most soulful, groove-driven, and emotionally expressive forms.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been a dedicated figure in electronic music since the 1990s. His extensive collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital media reflects decades of passion for sound and an enduring respect for underground culture. While his career has ventured through techno, drum and bass, and chillout, house music has always remained central to his artistic vision.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua helped sustain its momentum by organising grassroots events and promoting collaboration among local DJs and producers. After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned with renewed energy, launching Floating Beats, a show recognised for its melodic and immersive tone, followed by Velvety Elements, which delves into the deeper, more soulful side of house.

Producing under various aliases including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores different creative directions, from minimal and percussive grooves to melodic, emotionally resonant house. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label designed to showcase his own productions as well as work from innovative underground artists who share his focus on warmth, depth, and human connection through sound.

Recent highlights include the Nobody Waiting For Me EP under his Joshua Marian alias, released on Back to the Beat in late 2024, featuring the organ-driven title track alongside the nostalgic I Love You. Other standout releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul further showcase his talent for crafting soulful, uplifting house music that blends musicality with dancefloor energy.

Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to evolve his sound and vision, creating a platform that unites authenticity and emotion. Each episode offers an elegant blend of rhythm, depth, and warmth, inviting listeners to experience the timeless spirit and unity of house music.

Velvety Elements episode 284 opens with Dillusion by Locklead, a smooth entry point filled with rounded bass and deep textures. The flow continues into Insane by DJ Romain and Chick House by Bress Underground, both offering crisp Jackin House rhythms and upbeat percussion. These tracks set a confident tone early, striking a balance between swing and groove that defines the first part of the show.

DJ Joshua builds the vibe with Wolking To The Beat by DJ Soch and Mystery Shopper by DJ Pipe, blending raw House drums with the depth of modern Deep House. Call Me (Ralphi’s Extended LP Mix) by Deee-Lite brings a Classic House edge with its nostalgic vocal and disco influence, providing a fun, soulful midpoint in the mix.

Midway through, I Can Tell You What You Want by DJ Sneak and Louder (Deep In The Dark Mix) by Fabio Tosti deepen the atmosphere, weaving expressive keys with steady rhythmic drive. That’s Alright by Franck Roger and First Summer by Tuccillo add warm grooves and subtle textures, leading the mix into deeper emotional territory without losing its dancefloor focus.

The show closes with Moving Floor by Jack District and Walking Dub by Julie Marghilano, drawing together elements of Minimal / Deep Tech and classic Deep House. The transition into subtle dub rhythms and layered synth work creates a serene finish. DJ Joshua crafts a seamless journey through Deep and Jackin House, balancing soulful nostalgia with forward-thinking production.
