Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest episode of Velvety Elements, curated by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading platform for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events, the station continues to champion talented artists from Asia and around the world.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been a prominent figure in the electronic music scene since the 1990s. His extensive collection, covering vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats, reflects a lifelong dedication to exploring sound in its many forms.

While his journey has touched on Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music remains the foundation of his artistic expression. During quieter periods in Portugal’s underground movement, Joshua continued to contribute behind the scenes, organising events and fostering collaborations to help sustain and evolve the local culture.

After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned with renewed creative energy. He first launched Floating Beats, a show celebrated for its melodic and immersive selections, followed by Velvety Elements, which showcases refined, groove-focused interpretations of House music.

Working under various aliases including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores a wide range of styles, from minimal and percussive to soulful and melodic. In 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his own productions and to releasing deep, emotionally engaging House music from emerging talents worldwide.

Velvety Elements 275 opens with Ghoroob by DDrhode, setting a warm Deep House atmosphere before moving into Francesco Tamburrano’s Libellula in the Alexander Bogdanov Remix, blending Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) with Dub textures. DJ Joshua’s own work as K-Joshua appears early with Calculate Fast in the Lotech_Hijack Repurposed Mix, maintaining the deep, hypnotic flow while adding his distinctive dub-influenced touch. Amaral Borges’ Tulips and Seashells follows with a similarly immersive Techno and Dub combination.

The pace remains deep yet evolving as Gonzalo Villarreal’s Curanto returns to Deep House warmth, contrasting with another K-Joshua original, Deep Vanity Well, which reintroduces the darker, hypnotic dub rhythms. Sasse and Klas Lindblad’s Gamla Stan offers a break in tone with smooth Electronica textures, creating a reflective interlude before Pedro Capelossi and Aeikus’s Chasing Ghosts pushes back into driving Techno territory.

Momentum builds further with Spigl’s HZP delivering precision-crafted Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic), followed by Pablo Bolivar’s Ocarina in the Stelios Vassiloudis Remix, bringing in a fusion of Minimal / Deep Tech and Deep Tech grooves. These tracks maintain a hypnotic pull while layering intricate, atmospheric detail.

Closing the set, Mr. G’s Consequences brings a grounded House groove, easing listeners out of the deeper and darker moments while keeping the energy alive. Across the mix, DJ Joshua blends Deep House, Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic), Dub, Electronica, Minimal / Deep Tech, Deep Tech, and House into a coherent journey that reflects both versatility and genre mastery.

Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it live, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
