Coh-hul Releases Playlist For ‘Play It Loud’ 20

Coh-hul presents Play It Loud episode 20 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Coh-hul is an established DJ and producer based in Ho Chi Minh City, and he had been an artist on the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency for several years at the time of publication. His first major event was a New Year’s Eve party in Northern Thailand in 2015, after which he developed a following for his music and approach to playing.

Coh-hul’s predominant styles are Tech House and Tech Funk, shaped by his grounding in the Dirtybird, This Ain’t Bristol, Relief, Snatch! and Perfect Driver record labels. His sets favour funky drum beats, pounding bass lines and futuristic sci-fi melodies, with an ear for when to intensify the room and when to ease the pace.

Having lived in Saigon for five years at the time of publication, he hosts his own Tech-House nights and brings lively dancefloors to the city. His best-known party is the monthly “AfterDark” event, co-hosted with Broma:Not A Bar.

He is a DJ member of the “DTOX” party brand and has been involved with WHAT? Events and Scientific Sound Asia events. In Ho Chi Minh City, his appearances have included The Lighthouse, Saigon Soul Pool Party, Piu Piu, Upper Saigon, Hideout, Last Call, Indika, Saigon Outcast and Rogue.

Outside Saigon, Coh-hul has played the Mui Ne Music & Arts Festival and The Rock Island Club for New Year’s Eve on Phu Quoc Island. His admiration for Dirtybird Records led him to attend Dirtybird Campout alone in summer 2017.

While visiting the United States, he put together a renegade party at Venice Beach in Los Angeles and performed at Stacy’s at Melrose in Phoenix, Arizona. In summer 2018, he played Le Chapiteau in Marseille to a sold-out venue, describing it at the time as the best set of his career so far.

He had also started a YouTube show called Seshnikov, offering music-production tips and presenting some of his track ideas. Coh-hul was on Spotify and Bandcamp, with his attention focused on production and getting his own material onto dancefloors.

His preceding programme focused on Red Paradise Records and its catalogue. Play It Loud episode 20 turns to Basement Leak, the label run by French artist Shiba San, following new monthly selections with a look back and a substantial label-focused section.

Coh-hul’s Play It Loud episode 20 playlist opens with Merrick & Baxley’s Felipe Gordon rework of The Scene on Local Talk before Ango Tamarin’s Call Girl on Edible introduces House Music. Teknicoz’s Is Hot on Phunk Junk Dark, Dipzy’s The Means on Dirtybird, Nasser Baker’s Preacher Preach on Relief and Detlef’s Vibing on Solid Grooves Records establish the Tech House direction.

Eldon UK’s NYC Girl on Hottrax, E.R.N.E.S.T.O.’s Not Again on Dirtybird and Good Neighbor’s Can You Hear Them on Artichokes Are Yellow keep the rhythm taut and club-focused. Black V Neck and Krazysucio’s More on Dirtybird leads into the Electronic edge of Dances With White Girls’ Walker & Royce dub of Skinny Dipping on Rules Don’t Apply.

Harry Romero and Claude VonStroke’s House Stepper on Dirtybird is followed by A21’s Hungry Octopus on Dtuned Records, before the set returns firmly to its main groove. Teknicoz and JYNX’s Booty and Ardalan’s Road to Campout, both on Dirtybird, are joined by Bruno Furlan’s Ardalan remix of Arabic on Whistle.

Coh-hul then places his own Oh Yeah! from Spoon Fed among the Dirtybird selections, giving the first section a direct personal connection. Shiba San’s Burn Like Fire opens the Basement Leak focus with a return to House Music, while Luke Andy and Dipzy’s Lipzy and FOOLiE and 96 Vibe’s Bass Drum bring the label’s Tech House character into sharper view.

Steady Rock’s Junt and Nautik’s Work That, both from Basement Leak, keep the percussion prominent and the floor in Dance mode. ZXX and Gettoblaster’s Throw Em Up, Black V Neck’s Slow It Down and Dateless’ Some People sustain that firm, stripped-back pressure.

Tim Baresko’s Custom leads into Shiba San and Nautik’s Shake It Down, followed by Dipzy’s Proximo and Gettoblaster’s Bang The Box featuring DJ Dagwood, all from Basement Leak. Shiba San’s Rock Da House and Dateless’ Stale Ham Sandwich keep the label showcase centred on functional, bass-led Tech House.

The closing run moves through Millad’s I Was Born and Cobra Khan’s Don’t Know before Shiba San returns with Guess What, all on Basement Leak. Gettoblaster and Teklow’s Get Ratchet gives way to Dateless’ Freak Dance, ending the programme with the same insistent club energy that defines its label-focused final stretch.
