Bicycle Corporation return with Foundations episode 58, this time featuring guest DJ trio ShamChun Speedoo on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform serving listeners across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. Together they have built a catalogue of more than fifty productions and remixes spanning Deep House, Tech House, French House, melodic electronic music and Techno.
Marco began his career in Turin during the early 1990s, becoming involved with the Urban People collective as a DJ, promoter and event organiser. His growing reputation across Italy eventually led to international bookings and established a career that extended well beyond his home country.
Over the years, Marco has performed across Europe, Asia and other parts of the international club circuit. His experience behind the decks has given him a broad musical approach shaped by House, Techno, Disco and other areas of underground electronic music.
Stefano grew up in Turin and showed a strong interest in music from an early age, studying classical piano, percussion and drums. His wider influences included Chopin and West African djembe, giving him a broad rhythmic and melodic foundation before electronic music became his main focus.
As a teenager, Stefano became increasingly fascinated by DJ culture and the electronic music that was still difficult to hear on mainstream Italian radio during the 1990s. That interest encouraged him to study production and develop the technical skills that would later become central to Bicycle Corporation.
When Stefano met Marco, the pair discovered a shared understanding of underground electronic music and began working together. Marco's experience as a DJ and Stefano's studio background allowed the project to move naturally between deeper, melodic and more driving club material.
Bicycle Corporation have maintained a steady output across numerous releases while continuing to develop new ideas together. Their partnership leaves room for the different influences each member brings while retaining a recognisable approach to underground electronic music.
The duo have also revisited material from the earlier stages of their catalogue and made selected productions available through their Bandcamp page. This gives listeners access to older work while Marco and Stefano continue with new productions, collaborations and radio projects.
Foundations gives Bicycle Corporation space to explore the records, artists and styles that have influenced their work beyond their own productions. Episode 58 continues that approach with the guest trio, adding another perspective to the series while keeping its focus on the roots and broader development of underground electronic music.

This week’s guests are ShamChun Speedoo, a Chinese DJ trio based in Guangzhou and made up of DJ YeYe, Xhankonkon and N1K00. The group performs regularly as a three-person project, with each member bringing a deliberately different emotional character to the collective.
Their concept is built around contrasting ideas of love, distance and disconnection. DJ YeYe is described as someone who wants to be loved, Xhankonkon as someone who cannot be loved, and N1K00 as someone who has lost the ability to love.
That contrast feeds directly into the identity of ShamChun Speedoo. The trio use emotional difference, fractured communication and personal expression as part of the way they frame their music and their relationship with one another.
Their imagery is intentionally surreal, including the idea of the three members standing upside down while looking at a Ferris wheel in an attempt to stop their tears from falling. It gives the project a slightly absurd but melancholic character, balancing humour with feelings of isolation, memory and uncertainty.
Communication between three different radio stations also helped reshape the meaning of ShamChun Speedoo as a project. Rather than presenting themselves simply as three DJs performing together, they use those separate perspectives to explore what happens when different emotional states collide and then attempt to reconnect.
That tension can appear as a reflection of city life, an internal monologue or a search for affection after something has broken apart. The idea gives their selections an emotional framework without forcing the music into a single style or mood.
For their appearance on Foundations, ShamChun Speedoo move through Ethnic Chillout, Disco, Slow Tempo, Dub, Italo Disco, Soul and Chillout. The broad selection suits a programme centred on the records, influences and musical foundations that help shape an artist’s identity.
Their contribution brings a distinctly personal perspective to the series, using slower rhythms, Disco, Dub and soulful material as different parts of the same narrative. Rather than focusing on peak-time club music, the trio use Foundations to reveal the wider range of sounds behind ShamChun Speedoo.
Foundations 58 with ShamChun Speedoo begins with Ye Ye moving freely between reggae, psychedelic music, soul and dancefloor edits, opening with UB40's Reggae favourite "Don't Break My Heart" before Altın Gün's Anatolian psychedelic approach shifts the mood dramatically. Paprika Soul and Sarah Newell's "Come With Me" brings Brazilian and bossa influences into the flow, while Drizabone, Rare Cuts, Rose and Rheinzand move the selection towards Soul, Disco and Nu Disco territory.
Xhankonkon takes a different route through retro pop and electronic music, with 李玟 followed by TRONICBOX's deliberately 1980s-styled reworking of "Somebody That I Used To Know", Culture Club, Go West, Thompson Twins and Modern Talking. АЛЬЯНС and Bronski Beat strengthen the Synth Pop thread, while The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love" provides an indie-rock detour before 超级市场 closes the section with a distinctly Chinese electronic perspective.
N1K00 shifts the focus again, concentrating more heavily on Chinese-language and Asian recordings while keeping the eclectic character of the programme intact. 庾澄庆, 问题总部, 萧亚轩, 草蜢 and 梁咏琪 bring pop, soul and groove-led material into the mix before The D.E.P, 水仙LONE and 二向箔 lead the selection towards Electronica and more leftfield electronic forms.
绝对纯洁 and YEHAIYAHAN push the closing stretch into darker, more Experimental territory before 问题总部 complete the programme with "伤痕". Across all three selectors, Foundations 58 works less like a conventional genre set and more like a journey through reggae, synth pop, disco, funk, soul, Asian pop and underground electronics, with each section establishing its own identity while contributing to the episode's unusually broad musical range.
