Bicycle Corporation introduce guest DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, for a new edition of their Roots series. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the show continues the station’s mission as an electronic music platform, DJ agency and promoter connecting underground artists across Asia and beyond.
Bicycle Corporation is the long-running Italian collaboration between DJ and producer Marco Mei and classically trained musician Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, the duo have released more than fifty tracks and remixes spanning House and Techno in its many forms, including Deep, Tech, Melodic and French House, balancing club-ready energy with strong musical foundations.
Marco began his journey in the early 1990s, working behind the scenes on events organised by the Urban People collective. These formative years helped him build a solid reputation within Italy’s growing underground scene, quickly leading to demand across the country. As his profile expanded, international bookings followed, marking the start of a global career that continues today.
Stefano, raised in Torino, showed musical promise from an early age. Immersing himself in classical piano, percussion and drums, he developed a strong appreciation for musical structure alongside a deep respect for rhythm, drawing inspiration from both Chopin’s compositions and West African djembe traditions. While grounded in classical training, it was the role of the DJ and the power of electronic music that truly captured his imagination.
At a time when electronic music was rarely heard on Italian radio, Stefano’s fascination with club culture and sound design pushed him towards production. His meeting with Marco united two complementary musical paths, built on rhythm, curiosity and technical skill, giving rise to Bicycle Corporation.
Despite decades of releases and international recognition, Marco and Stefano remain closely connected to their roots. In recent years, they have revisited and reissued early material through their Bandcamp page, offering insight into the foundations of their sound. The Roots series reflects this same ethos, welcoming guest DJs such as Murphy Kin who share a deep connection to underground electronic music culture.

This week’s guest DJ is Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, an artist driven by constant curiosity and a restless approach to digging for new sounds. With a background rooted in the film industry, his transition into DJing and music production reflects a creative mindset without limits or fixed boundaries.
Listening to DJ Lucy’s sets feels closer to watching a film than following a traditional club structure. His music unfolds through peaks and valleys, guided by narrative rather than tempo alone. While his selections often sit around 125 to 128 BPM, he avoids predictable four-to-the-floor progressions, favouring slow, deliberate build-ups that allow atmosphere and emotion to develop naturally.
Rather than rushing toward a peak, he leads listeners through a wide emotional range, moving from romantic rock, classic old-school cuts and flirtatious R&B into disco, indie, rock and dance-oriented territory. Each transition is designed to feel cinematic, gradually drawing the listener deeper until the rhythm reaches its emotional climax.
Positive and energetic by nature, DJ Lucy draws from an exceptionally broad musical palette. His selections can shift seamlessly between hip hop, rock, punk, indie rock and jazz, always guided by rhythm and mood. This versatility allows him to shape the emotional flow of a room, capturing attention through contrast and carefully timed progression.
As the driving force behind Ting Ting Disco, DJ Lucy has been responsible for a series of respected parties across Taipei and Shanghai since 2015. The project quickly gained recognition for its open-minded musical approach, expanding into other cities across China before touring more widely across Asia.
Bicycle Corporation's Roots 167, featuring guest DJ Murphy Kin, opens with a darker, underground tone as Indie Dance and Dark Disco selections establish a moody and hypnotic foundation. Remixed versions of Sorcery set a late-night atmosphere, before Afro House and Deep House tracks such as Mandala and Deep Inside (Of You) bring warmth and rhythmic depth into the early flow.
As the episode unfolds, the focus shifts toward funk-infused Disco and Deep House. Tracks like Boogie With The Channel and Marcy Ave Parlay introduce groove-driven momentum, while unexpected moments such as the electronic interpretation of the Knight Rider theme add character and playful contrast without breaking the mix’s cohesion.
Midway through, the set leans into classic Disco, Nu Disco and Indie Dance territory. Selections including Promises, Dancing Girl and I Wanna Feel Your Love reinforce the Roots identity, blending dancefloor nostalgia with modern production and maintaining a relaxed but purposeful energy.
The closing section moves confidently through Disco, Boogie and House, finishing with soulful and uplifting selections that reflect the show’s broad musical range. Roots 167 closes as a well-balanced and expressive journey, highlighting Murphy Kin's ability to connect underground club music, classic dance influences and eclectic leftfield choices into a coherent and engaging episode.
