Bicycle Corporation introduce guest DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, for a new edition of their Roots show. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the programme continues the station’s mission as a leading electronic music platform, DJ agency and promoter connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the long-standing Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and classically trained musician Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. Together, the duo have released well over fifty tracks spanning a wide spectrum of house and techno, including melodic, deep, tech and French-influenced styles, always rooted in strong musical foundations and club culture.
Marco began his journey in the early 1990s, working closely with event crews such as Urban People. Through persistence and an instinctive understanding of the dancefloor, he steadily gained recognition within Italy’s underground scene, becoming a highly sought-after DJ. This momentum soon led to international bookings, taking his sound far beyond his home country and establishing his reputation on a global level.
Stefano, born and raised in Torino, showed an early affinity for music. From a young age, he dedicated much of his time to studying classical piano, percussion and drums, developing an appreciation for both European composition, including the works of Chopin, and the rhythmic power of West African djembe traditions. This broad musical grounding would later become a defining element of his production work.
Despite his classical background, it was the figure of the DJ that truly captivated Stefano. At a time when electronic music was rarely heard on Italian radio, the idea of creating and sharing those sounds with a wider audience became a powerful motivation. What initially felt like an unreachable ambition gradually took shape through determination, experimentation and long hours spent refining his craft.
That shared vision eventually brought Marco and Stefano together, forming Bicycle Corporation. Even with their continued success and international recognition, the duo remain closely connected to their roots. In recent years, they have revisited some of their earlier productions and made them available through their Bandcamp page, offering listeners a deeper insight into the foundations of their sound and the journey that shaped their enduring collaboration.

Guest DJ Murphy Kin.
This week’s guest DJ is Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy. Never satisfied when it comes to digging for new sounds, DJ Lucy approaches music with boundless curiosity. With a background in the film industry, his relationship with DJing and production goes beyond fixed structures, treating music as an open, expressive medium rather than a set formula.
Listening to a DJ Lucy set often feels like watching a film unfold. His selections rise and fall with intention, avoiding predictable peaks or a straight 4/4 comfort zone. Rather than pushing straight to the high point, he prefers a gradual build, guiding the listener through mood, tension and release, much like a carefully paced narrative.
His musical journey frequently moves between romantic rock, classic old-school influences and flirtatious R&B, before shifting into disco, indie, rock and dance-driven moments. Each transition feels cinematic, with melodies and rhythms designed to pull the listener deeper into the experience before reaching a powerful climax.
Naturally positive and energetic, DJ Lucy draws from an extensive musical palette. He enjoys moving fluidly between genres, weaving together hip hop, rock, punk, indie rock and jazz, always aiming to connect emotionally through rhythm and contrast rather than sticking to rigid stylistic boundaries.
As the driving force behind Ting Ting Disco, DJ Lucy has helped establish the brand as a respected name in Taipei and Shanghai since 2015, hosting parties across bars, pubs, clubs and alternative venues. From 2017 onwards, Ting Ting Disco expanded further, touring other cities in China and continuing across Asia, steadily building an international presence.
More recently, Ting Ting Disco has broadened its focus beyond events, placing greater emphasis on releasing music online. By collecting and curating productions from around the world, the platform offers listeners a wider spectrum of sounds and creative influences.
When performing live, DJ Lucy remains refreshingly unscripted. His sets are shaped by the room, the crowd and the moment itself, yet at times he steers the atmosphere with the confidence of a film director guiding a scene. This month’s show reflects that approach, moving through House, Disco, Chillout and Indie Dance with a strong sense of flow and storytelling.
Roots 164 sees Bicycle Corporation guest DJ Murphy Kin, who opens the session with a spacious and cosmic mood. Early selections such as Take Over Fjorden and Spray establish a slow-burning atmosphere, easing into deeper territory through the contrasting versions of I Feel Stronger Now, where subtle changes in rhythm and texture guide the flow forward.
As the mix develops, Murphy Kin draws heavily on disco-rooted house and soulful influences. Tracks like I’ll Do Anything for You, Discomania and Ta Lassa bring warmth and movement, while nu-disco cuts including Super Disco and Spanners inject playful energy without losing the underground edge. The pacing remains controlled, allowing each record room to breathe.
The middle-to-late section becomes more introspective, with deeper house moments such as Spirit Feel, The Right Way and Beaubien Dream shaping a late-night feel. Indie-leaning selections like Pastarella Al Limoncello and Thistle Hotels add character and contrast, highlighting Murphy Kin’s crate-digging approach and broad musical range.
In the final stretch, global and psychedelic influences surface through Red Axes’ Ho Chi Min and Hanoi, before the mix closes on soulful and funk-driven selections including Ghetto Life and Stop and Think. Roots 164 stands as a carefully curated guest session, showcasing DJ Murphy Kin’s ability to connect house, disco and leftfield sounds into a cohesive and timeless journey.
