Bicycle Corporation welcomes guest DJ Otherkind from Sweatbox Records for his second appearance on their Foundations series. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the show continues the station’s role as a leading electronic music platform, promoter and DJ agency connecting underground scenes across Asia and beyond.
Bicycle Corporation is the long-running Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and classically trained musician Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Since forming the project, the duo have released more than fifty tracks across a wide spectrum of house and techno, spanning Deep House, Tech House, French House, Melodic House and Techno, always grounded in strong musical structure and club culture.
Marco began his journey in the early 1990s working behind the scenes for events such as Urban People. Through persistence and an instinctive understanding of the dancefloor, he steadily built a reputation within Italy’s underground scene, becoming a highly sought-after DJ. This momentum soon led to international bookings, taking his sound far beyond Italy and establishing him on a global circuit.
Stefano, born and raised in Torino, showed an early affinity for music. From a young age, he dedicated much of his time to studying classical piano, percussion and drums, developing a deep appreciation for both European composition, including the works of Chopin, and the rhythmic traditions of West African djembe. This broad musical foundation would later become a defining element of his production work.
Despite his classical training, it was the figure of the DJ that truly captured Stefano’s imagination. At a time when electronic music was rarely heard on Italian radio, the idea of creating and sharing those sounds became a powerful motivation. What initially seemed like an unreachable ambition gradually took shape through commitment, experimentation and long hours spent refining his craft.
That shared vision eventually brought Marco and Stefano together, forming Bicycle Corporation. Even after years of releases and international recognition, the duo remain closely connected to their roots. Recently, they have revisited some of their early productions and made them available through their Bandcamp page, offering listeners a deeper insight into the foundations of their sound and the journey that continues to shape their work today.

Guest DJ Otherkind.
This week’s guest DJ is Otherkind, an Iranian-born, Kuala Lumpur-based DJ, producer and artist whose presence has become deeply embedded in the city’s underground scene. With more than fifteen years behind the decks, Otherkind has earned a reputation as a versatile and instinctive selector, equally comfortable opening a night, driving peak-time energy or closing a dancefloor with hypnotic precision.
A long-standing resident of Sweatbox, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most influential underground platforms, Otherkind has delivered countless memorable sets, including extended open-to-close performances that remain a reference point for the local community. His ability to adapt to the room, while maintaining a strong musical identity, has seen him trusted across every time slot, a reflection of both technical confidence and deep musical understanding.
Over the years, he has shared line-ups with an impressive range of international artists, including Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Gui Boratto, Kaiser Souzai, Eddie Richards, Rob Roar, Clive Henry, Chus & Ceballos, Shahram Jey, Nora En Pure, SABB, Denis Cruz and Miguel Bastida. These appearances further cemented his standing as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most reliable and forward-thinking underground DJs.
Otherkind’s relationship with music began early, shaped by Persian musical traditions and hands-on experience with classical percussion. That rhythmic foundation continues to inform his DJ sets today, where groove, tension and space are carefully balanced. Rather than simply mixing tracks, he treats the booth as a live instrument, sculpting moods and pacing the dancefloor as if he were part of it.
As a producer, Otherkind remains highly active. Recent releases include Sunburst, released in late 2024, and Nine Lives (No Savior), which arrived in 2025, highlighting a continued focus on hypnotic, groove-led electronic music. He has also contributed tracks to international compilations, including Nothing But… Fuego for the Terrace, expanding his reach beyond Southeast Asia. His catalogue includes releases on Sweatbox Records, Kommunication Records and Soul De Anima, with new material continuing to surface.
Unwilling to be confined to a single genre, Otherkind’s sound moves fluidly through minimal techno, deep and hypnotic textures and percussive club rhythms, always grounded in a strong sense of flow. His sets are never scripted, shaped instead by atmosphere, crowd response and instinct, making each performance a unique experience.
With a decade of production work, an ever-growing release catalogue and a relentless commitment to underground culture, Otherkind stands as a key figure in Kuala Lumpur’s electronic music landscape and an artist whose influence is steadily reaching further afield.
The episode opens in a restrained, cerebral space where Dust & Gas and Division set a focused tone rooted in deep electronic tension. Tracks like The Love Anthem in its Mike Derer remix and Communication maintain a hypnotic flow, balancing emotional weight with precision-built techno frameworks.
As the mix unfolds, raw and hypnotic techno takes full control. Cuts such as Quetzalli, Lunar Drift and Sahasrara lean into slow-burning pressure, while Spark and Metanoia reinforce the darker, meditative side of the genre. The pacing remains deliberate, allowing each track’s texture and atmosphere to breathe.
Peak-time energy emerges through selections like More Drums Please, Dynamic Peace and the Pan-Pot remix of Hick, adding forward momentum without breaking the episode’s immersive character. Balls Back in Marco Faraone’s remix sharpens the drive, introducing a tougher rhythmic edge before easing back into deeper territory.
The closing stretch widens the spectrum with Upside Down in Joris Voorn’s breakbeat reinterpretation and The Oshawa Connection, bringing a subtle shift towards breaks and electronica. It rounds off a carefully structured set that highlights Otherkind’s ability to move between hypnotic depth, driving techno and leftfield moments while maintaining a cohesive underground narrative.
