Bicycle Corporation introduce guest DJ Murphy Kin a.k.a DJ Lucy for his new Roots show. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station, DJ agency and promoter for the Asian region and globally.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian partnership between DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. Together, they have released well over 50 tracks and remixes across the realms of House and Techno.

Marco started his career in the early 1990s by working as a crew member for events such as Urban People. Over time, he gained recognition within the music scene and gradually became a sought-after figure throughout Italy. However, success didn't end there - following considerable achievement in his home country, Marco soon secured international bookings worldwide.

Stefano, from Torino, Italy, displayed promise as an emerging musician from childhood. He demonstrated a keen interest in the musical arts, which soon occupied most of his free time. He studied classical piano, percussion, and drums while developing a great appreciation for Chopin's compositions and the sounds of West African Djembe.

Despite his dedication to various musical forms, there was one aspect Stefano loved above all others - the person spinning the records. Yes, the DJ became most captivating for teenage Stefano. Those beats were rarely played on Italian radio stations during that period.

Creating those sounds, let alone performing them before large crowds, would appear an impossible dream to most. However, Stefano remained undeterred - he held a vision he would pursue to completion, and through hard work, dedication and pure determination, Bicycle Corporation was born.

Even with their current success, Marco and Stefano have not forgotten their modest origins. Recently, they have been revisiting some of their earlier tracks and established a Bandcamp page to share them.

This week's guest DJ is Murphy Kin a.k.a DJ Lucy. DJ Lucy is never satisfied with his curiosity for discovering new sounds. Originally from the film industry, being a DJ and producing music offers him unlimited and unbounded possibilities.

Listening to Lucy's music resembles watching a film - it has peaks and valleys, and he doesn't simply construct melodies between 125-128 BPM, as this certainly isn't comfortable 4/4 throughout, and he'll never transport you to euphoria at the start of his sets. Instead, he'll guide you through his beats with a gradual build-up, leading you from romantic rock, classic old school, seductive R&B, then into Disco, Indie, Rock and even Dance.

His music creates the feeling of being within a film scene, reaching emotional peaks through beats. Born naturally positive and energetic, DJ Lucy possesses diverse musical tastes and understands various genres. He attempts to capture your emotions rhythmically by moving between different musical styles, from Hip-Hop, Rock and Punk to Indie Rock and Jazz.

Under DJ Lucy's direction, Ting Ting Disco has become recognised for presenting excellent parties across bars, pubs, clubs and venues in both Taipei and Shanghai since 2015. In 2017, Ting Ting Disco began performing in other Chinese cities and touring continuously throughout Asia.

In 2021, it aimed to offer more than just parties by also releasing online music. Collecting and combining music productions from around the world provides music enthusiasts with greater multi-genre choices.

During live performances, you'll discover he's a musician without rules or scripts. Sometimes his performance is guided by the moment, atmosphere or energy, and sometimes he controls everyone's emotional state like a film director.

Episode 145 of Roots begins with Murphy Kin showcasing laid-back grooves, including Normal Eyes by Of Norway and Forcefield Energy by Orlando Voorn. These early selections lean on warm Deep House textures and a touch of Disco fusion, setting the stage with a relaxed yet upbeat tone.

Midway through the mix, Murphy Kin blends Nu Disco edits and crisp House rhythms, with tracks like Green Steel by Clavis and Forever & I by Denyl Brook giving the session dancefloor momentum. A highlight during this section is Music For Clubs by Dam Swindle and Lorenz Rhode, adding funk-infused keys and modern production finesse.

As the set progresses, heavier elements surface. 333 by Sam Shure delivers a subtle melodic build, followed by the tribal-tinged Mami Wata by Deardrums and the techno-leaning Grid by Meloko, giving the session a darker yet still rhythmic contour.

Closing out the show are hypnotic Deep House and breakbeat selections such as Dim Your Eyes by Of Norway and the Prins Thomas remix of Day by Mental Overdrive. These tracks round off a diverse and compelling mix that spans Disco, Funk, Electronica and late-night House.
