Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous episode 34 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is mostly revered in Saigon, Vietnam, for pioneering the Mad Circus parties. He also organised Bahrain's first underground DJ collective, Glassroom.
Leading a group of misfits from different nationalities, he organised legal parties and after-parties as well as occasional renegade events that became part of local nightlife folklore. His motto at the time was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
As part of the Banana Hustle crew's tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City, he helped shape their distinctive atmosphere. Originally a Techno head, he developed a taste for digging out unusual Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
He complements this approach with selections ranging from Techno to contemporary Indie Dance. His skills as a disc jockey led to appearances at underground Vietnamese venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, moving across genres through tense, groove-led bass lines and melodic turns. He explores world music and early electro alongside that approach.
His selections can move towards trippy, dark downtempo material with tribal and South American influences, or towards darker Leftfield Electro infused with Nu Disco, Electroclash, Wave, New Beat and Dark Disco. This edition was originally broadcast on 7 March 2021.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous episode 34 opens with Kimshies' My Fuck on Nein Records and Id!r and Theus Mago's Soft Light on Duro, setting an Indie Dance tone. John Haden's Khainz remix of Black Hole on Jannowitz Records introduces Peak Time Techno, before MRDIE's Xtramol remix of Worm Hole on Krad Records adds Deep Tech House.
Kimshies returns with Cabaret Nocturne's remix of Fucked Up Mama on Duro, followed by Dan Bay and Krystyna's 123 on Bunte Kuh. Díaz Tech's Baile Acido in its XLR Analog Mix on Maleante Records pushes back into Peak Time Techno, while Dino Lenny's What a Sound on Duro brings the Indie Dance thread forward again.
Rubicon Massacre Ltd's Bjarki Pandemix of Famous sits between Dino Lenny's selection and Monika Ross's Cut Strategy on Banoffee Pies Records. Ross's record introduces UK Garage, before Marc Houle, Sian and Marsian's Audiojack remix of X-Rays on Octopus Recordings restores the Peak Time Techno pressure.
Elmono's Milkydromeda and Tàgi's Syntax Error lead into OK EG's Tackle remix of Filament on Steeplejack Rec, a focused Techno moment. Blake Baxter's Assassin precedes Positive Merge's Octave remix of Emptiness on Android Muziq, returning to Tech House.
Commuter's Systemausfall on Space Factory reconnects with Indie Dance before Emmanuel Top's Stress, Raw Takes' Pop Yo Pussy and Privacy's The Net. Maara's Der She Goes on NAFF and OCB's Rush on Mechatronica Music then bring an Electronica edge to the later part of the programme.
Loïcc's Acidmix of Falloff, released on Mind Controlled Rectifier, brings in mystical breaks before the closer. Mind Controlled Rectifier's Complex Emotions completes the edition with the same off-centre electronic focus.
