Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous episode 29 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is well known in Saigon, Vietnam, as the pioneer of Mad Circus parties. He was also the organiser of Bahrain’s first underground DJ collective, Glassroom.
Leading a group of outcasts from different countries, he arranged legal and occasionally unauthorised parties and after-parties that became part of the local nightlife scene. During that period, his mantra was "They attempted to bury us, but they failed to realize we were seeds."
As part of the Banana Hustle team, he contributed to the atmosphere of their tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City. Although his early preference was Techno, he also developed an appreciation for tracks spanning Afro, House, Disco and Funk.
His selections combine hand-picked Techno with newer Indie Dance material. His skills as a disc jockey led to appearances at underground Vietnamese venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, with tense bass lines and melodic storytelling. Over time, he has also explored world music and the early history of electro.
His downtempo mixes can draw on tribal and South American influences, while his darker upbeat sets bring together Leftfield Electro, Nu-Disco, Electroclash, Wave, New Beat and Dark Disco. These contrasting approaches place atmosphere and selection at the centre of his work.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous episode 29 opens with Tafi All Stars’ Agbe Me Nya Wo on Autonomous Africa, an Electronica introduction. Hibotep’s Acid Dairiah on Syrphe follows with an abstract edge before Electrypnose’s downtempo Mountains Landscape on Ajana Records.
Etcha’s Hipnosis, in Flowerpowder’s So So Happy Remix on Voll Schoen, brings in Deep Techno pressure. Freudenthal’s Akoustik on Spa In Disco then changes the pace, followed by Jugurtha’s Serail in the Miret Remix and A Sagittariun’s abstract The Road To Devils Tower on Elastic Dreams.
NoGain’s Xelema, remixed by Uj Pa Gaz for Playground Records, is paired with Jonny Rock’s Kardes on The Nothing Special. Ohxala’s O Barulho Do Gizo Da Cobra adds another Electronica turn before Billy Caso’s Alive in Nutia’s Busdriver Remix.
Ponty Mython’s Coconut Scarface on Omena brings a Dance Music pulse to the middle of the programme. Fluida’s Breaks cut Jambu, in Salvador Araguaya’s remix for Southern Fried Records, gives way to Lucare and Alvee’s Jinete in The Shamaniac Movement Remix.
James Rod’s Night Stratus on Re:vibe Music sets up Rayko’s Slowmotion Link in the James Rod Remix, released through Spa In Disco. Mogambo’s Dub selection Dishoom on Siamese Twins Records adds a more spacious rhythmic section.
Imarhan’s Imarhan, in Moscoman’s remix for Disco Halal, leads into The Shamaniac Movement’s Al-Karim. Rey & Kjavik close the episode with Vimalaa on RKJVK., returning the programme to Electronica for its final passage.
