Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous episode 27 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is well regarded in Saigon, Vietnam, for pioneering the Mad Circus parties. He also organised Bahrain’s first underground DJ collective, Glassroom, as a promoter focused on mayhem for the soul.
He led a group of misfits from several nationalities, staging legal and sometimes renegade parties and after-parties that local nightlife remembers as folklore. His motto at the time was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
As part of the Banana Hustle crew’s tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City, he helped develop the group’s distinctive atmosphere. Originally a Techno head, he developed a taste for digging out unusual Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
His selections range from hand-picked Techno to up-to-date Indie Dance. His skills as a disc jockey led to appearances at underground Vietnamese venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, using tense bass lines, groove and melodic storytelling. He explores world music and the earliest era of electro as part of an approach developed over time.
His output can move towards trippy, dark downtempo with tribal and South American influence, or towards darker leftfield electro. Nu-Disco, Electroclash, Wave, New Beat and Dark Disco also inform these selections.
Anonymous Z’s Not So Anonymous episode 27 opens with Marc Houle’s Coar on Minus, establishing a firm Peak Time Techno base. Plastikman’s Marc Houle remix of Headcase follows before Kieran Ishimaru’s Intersteller Harmony on Miaw introduces Deep Tech House.
Etapp Kyle’s Egor Boss remix of Parallel on Gynoid Audio brings in Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) detail. Planetary Assault Systems’ Temporary Suspension on Ostgut Ton and Tiefschwarz and Yotam Avni’s Hybrid Sounds on Souvenir Music return the programme to a more forceful techno pressure.
Artefakt’s Celluloid Dreams on Semantica Records sustains the deep, hypnotic strain before Tiefschwarz’s Bass Noir on Souvenir Music raises the intensity again. Tobias.’ Electric Storm, released through Ostgut Ton, then holds the mood in darker, more restrained territory.
Marc Houle returns with Talk To Me Baby on Minus, bringing the set back to a direct rhythmic focus. Neel and natural/electronic.system.’s Gracida on Tikita is followed by Martin Gore’s Virgil Enzinger remix of Brink on MUTE, keeping the centre of the programme firmly electronic.
Tobias.’ 1972 and Efdemin’s A Land Unknown, both on Ostgut Ton, deepen the late-set tension before Blicz’s Andre Kronert remix of 2nd Story on VOLPHONIE sharpens it once more. Substance’s Countdown on Ostgut Ton introduces a brief Breaks diversion within that progression.
Bjarki’s Umil 25-11 precedes Matthew Bomb’s Monocraft remix of Modular Side 3.0 on Darknet, restoring the programme’s tougher rhythmic emphasis. Luke Slater’s O-Ton Reassembled 4 on Ostgut Ton and Michael Kruck’s Monocraft remix of Watercraft on Darknet lead into President Bongo and Óttar Sæmundsen’s Yotam Avni remix of 3° Quadrante on Radio Bongo, ending on an Experimental note.
