MÁY CÀY offered a smaller setting than some of the larger clubs and event spaces used for electronic music in Ho Chi Minh City. Its central Bến Thành location made the venue well placed for an underground session aimed at listeners already following the city’s developing bass music community.

Skitty represented Foundation X and brought extensive experience as both a producer and DJ to the line-up. Originally from the United Kingdom and later based in Ho Chi Minh City, his work is rooted in Jungle, Drum and Bass and the harder, more technical areas of UK bass music.

His catalogue includes releases through established labels such as Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Bassbin, Subtitles, Osiris and Dutty Audio. Skitty also founded the Foundation X imprint, giving him another outlet for music connected with the darker and more uncompromising side of Drum and Bass.

That production background gave his appearance particular relevance to an event built around upfront material rather than familiar crossover selections. His involvement also connected the Ho Chi Minh City event directly with labels and artists that had played significant roles in the development of underground Drum and Bass outside Vietnam.

DJ Psycho-UK represented Scientific Sound Asia and drew on a musical background shaped in East London by Hip Hop, Jungle, Drum and Bass, House and underground rave culture. His selections connect those British influences with the electronic music community he later became involved with in Vietnam.

Across Ho Chi Minh City, DJ Psycho-UK has performed at venues including Basement, Cargo, Piu Piu and Indika, alongside other spaces that supported underground electronic music. His work with Scientific Sound Asia’s events has also been part of the platform’s broader activity as a radio station, promoter and DJ agency.

Being added another underground perspective to the programme and helped strengthen the event’s commitment to a focused Drum and Bass selection. His presence alongside Skitty and DJ Psycho-UK allowed the night to move between different approaches without abandoning the central musical direction.

Rehab and Scientific Sound had already been working to create regular opportunities for bass music audiences in Ho Chi Minh City, and this MÁY CÀY session formed part of that activity. Events of this scale provided a practical way to bring established DJs, local residents and dedicated listeners together without relying on the larger commercial nightclub model.

The timing also gave the night a different character from events that continued until the early morning, concentrating the programme into a shorter period between 9 PM and 1 AM. That structure put greater emphasis on the individual selections and on the progression between DJs across the four-hour session.

Scientific Sound Asia’s wider platform combines underground electronic music through its radio station, events activity, artist representation and music news. Historical events such as this one document the organisation’s involvement in Ho Chi Minh City’s underground culture before many of the venues associated with that period subsequently closed or changed direction.

The closure of MÁY CÀY means the original location now forms part of the archive rather than the current nightlife circuit, but retaining the address preserves an accurate record of where the event happened.
