DJ Marco Mei presents his 2020 show episode 16 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer who began DJing in Turin in 1991, after developing an interest in Afrocentric music and the emergence of electronic music as a teenager. He was associated with the Urban People collective in Turin during the formative years of his career.
After starting out as a DJ touring Italy, Marco performed alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg at international clubs and festivals. His work has taken him to venues including Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.
A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh during the early 2000s helped establish Marco’s international profile. Further appearances have included Woo Bar in Bali, The Mansion in Shanghai and The Observatory in Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2009, Marco formed Bicycle Corporation with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Their studio collaboration has produced more than 50 tracks and remixes, with releases across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno on labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, Suka and GrooveTraxx.
Based in Taipei, Marco performs at events in the capital and works across a wider South East Asian network. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through its radio station.
His weekly radio show spans Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. This April 2020 edition moves through house-led selections, disco references and tougher electronic material.
Marco Mei’s 2020 show episode 16 opens with Nico Lahs’ Inside Your Love on Adeen Records, establishing a Deep House foundation. Mark Picchiotti follows with Pump The Boogie on Glitterbox Recordings, bringing a brighter Nu-Disco touch to the opening.
Jasper Street Co.’s Mark Knight and Michael Gray remix of Paradise on Nervous Records moves into House Music, before Dub Disco Band’s Cosmic Disco, also on Nervous Records, keeps the club focus in place. HP Vince’s Soul Journey on Chopshop then precedes Tom Novy’s Disaia remix of Your Body on Royal Flush Records, introducing a firmer Tech House rhythm.
Bill Withers’ classic Lovely Day appears in the BC Edit before Moloko’s Italobros Edit of Sing It Back on Echo adds a Dance Music reference. St. Germain’s unreleased Soul Salsa Soul follows, while Unknown Artist’s Energy on Disneyland introduces the programme’s isolated soundtrack entry.
Bemac’s Together on Nevada Label returns the selection to Tech House before Basement Jaxx’s Franky Rizardo remix of Oh My Gosh on XL Recordings restores a house-based pulse. Mood Gorning’s Pontias, Pozdnyakov’s Unknown and Lemon8’s Partenaire Re-Creation of Lose Control form a less clearly classified late stretch.
Thomas Schumacher and Victor Ruiz bring the set into Peak Time Techno with Intuit on Drumcode. The track gives the closing section a more forceful electronic direction after the earlier house, disco and dance-focused selections.
Tranceman2000’s Bloodrave 2k20 provides the final selection, ending the programme with a trance-oriented edge. The complete playlist shows Marco moving from warm vocal and disco-informed material towards more direct late-set club music.
