DJ Marco Mei presents his 2020 episode 18 programme on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
With almost three decades of experience at the time of this broadcast, Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer. As a teenager, he developed an interest in Afrocentric music and the origins of electronic music, leading him to begin DJing during the early 1990s.
In his early years, Marco travelled across Italy to play House Music and Techno events, beginning with modest opportunities. He later performed at festivals and clubs internationally alongside DJs including Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg.
After establishing himself in Italy, he secured a residency with the Pacha nightclub franchise. He later moved to South Sinai, Egypt, where his residency in Sharm el Sheikh led to international bookings and a wider touring schedule.
His touring has included OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow. These appearances placed him alongside established artists at clubs across Europe and Asia.
In 2009, Marco began a production partnership with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, forming Bicycle Corporation. Their studio work has produced more than 50 tracks and remixes, which have found support within the electronic-music community.
Marco moved to Taipei, Taiwan, at the start of the previous decade and is based there. He works across a wider South East Asian network of clubs, events and electronic-music activity.
His weekly programme draws on Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica, Melodic House and Techno. The programme was originally broadcast on Saturday, 9 May 2020. Its playlist moves from house-rooted selections into disco-informed material, tougher club records and a techno finish.

Heller & Farley Project’s Ultra Flava in Darius Syrossian’s Full Pressure Remix on Defected brings in House Music, before Jaycee’s Plastic Dreams and Artwork’s Acid Lines on Unfinished Records deepen the opening club focus.
Armando’s Don’t Take It in the Thomos Edit follows with a more stripped-back character. Shan’s Holzboden on Running Back and Time To Sleep’s Lungo Mare on Disco Halal introduce Indie Dance, while Giandomenico Di Vito and Liz Hill’s To the Sky on Double Records returns to Deep House.
Seamus Haji and Bryan Chambers’ I Got You in the Dr Packer Extended Remix brings a vocal-led lift to the middle section. HP Vince’s Sometimes Baby on Blockhead Recordings adds Funky House, then Diplo and SIDEPIECE’s On My Mind in Purple Disco Machine’s remix on Higher Ground moves into Nu-Disco before Joyce Muniz’s Glass Mistress on Pets Recordings.
Moscoman’s What Do We Care in Gerd Janson’s Instrumental Remix keeps the rhythm focused before Daft Punk’s Around the World in the Guille Placencia Remix revisits House Music through Virgin. Riwalk’s Fucking Mind on Hang On Music then tightens the pace with Tech House.
Hugh Masekela’s Market Place in Moritz Von Oswald’s In the Market Dub brings a dub-oriented contrast, followed by Raf’s Self Control in the Irregular Disco Workers Edit. M’s Pop Muzik featuring Ian Ossia, in the Living in a Disco version on Echo Beach, adds a Bass / Club turn to the late section.
Alan Dixon’s La Danza on Running Back restores the Indie Dance thread, and Antony and the Johnsons’ Crazy in Love in the Little John Lovely Edit follows with a more idiosyncratic choice. Steffi’s Tank on Ostgut Ton closes the programme with Peak Time Techno, bringing the set to a firm late-night conclusion.
