DJ Marco Mei presented his 12 December 2020 radio show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
With nearly three decades of experience at the time, Marco Mei was an Italian DJ and producer whose formative listening included Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Disco, early Hip Hop and electronic music. Those influences informed his broad approach to club music and record selection.
He began DJing in the early 1990s, playing venues across Italy and taking part in festivals and clubs internationally. Along the way, he shared bills with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg.
A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh during the early 2000s became an important point in Marco's international career. He subsequently toured at venues including OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow.
In 2009, Marco formed Bicycle Corporation with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Working together in the studio, the pair produced more than 50 tracks and remixes.
Their productions gained recognition among artists working in House Music. Marco moved to Taipei, Taiwan, in the early 2010s and regularly performed at clubs and venues across the city.
Based in Taipei, Marco works across a wider South East Asian network while developing his work as a DJ and producer. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, and his weekly show is broadcast through its radio station.
The programme opens with Kuniyuki Takahashi's Flying Music in the Rhythm And Trumpet Mix on Mule Musiq, establishing a Deep House foundation. Black Loops follows with Homesick on Aterral, keeping the opening immersed in spacious club rhythm.
Gwen Guthrie's Peanut Butter in the Rotciv Edit, Cardi B featuring Megan Stallion's WAP in Peggy Gou's House In This Ho Edit and Westbam's You Need The Drugs in the Ghetto Remix broaden the early selection. Big Miz then brings Stay Awake from dixon Avenue Basement Jams into Tech House, before Felix Da Housecat's Sweat adds another club-focused turn.
Sebo K's L.U.V. on Kwench Records moves the mix into House Music. Liquid Gold's Dance Yourself Dizzy in the Disco Mix on Polo Records and The Ones' Flawless in the Phunk Investigation Club Mix Edit on Ink Records keep the central section vocal-led and direct.
Adelphi Music Factory's My People (Love Can Live Forever) in the Dub Mix on Higher Ground adds the soulful house material identified in the original playlist announcement. Loods follows with Pure Bliss Meltdown in Gerd Janson's Dance Remix on Steel City Dance Discs, introducing Indie Dance before Paul Johnson's Dance With Me in Patrick Topping's remix returns to Tech House on Moveltraxx.
DJ Pierre's Acid Love Dub on Get Physical Music brings Disco into the late sequence. Uncle Knows' Feel It on floor 13 then restores a firmer Tech House emphasis, while Björk's Hidden Place in the Fideles Re-interpretation changes the texture.
Andy Bros' Colle Dei Tigli on Engrave LTD returns the programme to Indie Dance in its final stretch. Bob Moses' Zhu Desire in Charlotte De Witte's Extended Remix and Danny Tenaglia featuring Celeda's Be Yourself in the Mike Isai Edit provide the closing records.
