Scientific Sound Asia is proud to announce that Ezmun will be starting a new weekly show, 'Cooking With Gas', on our station. Scientific Sound Asia is the foreign and local English language underground electronic music station, promoter, and DJ agency for Vietnam, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and the rest of Asia.
Cooking With Gas - The weekly dose of all things percussive, groovy and dark; curated by Ezmun. This week's 2-hour mix moves through tech house, leftfield bass and techno and explores the territory in between. Ezmun is originally from Cumbria in the United Kingdom. He has recently relocated to Vietnam to grow his music ambitions both as a DJ and producer.
Unfortunately, COVID forced him to temporarily relocate to Melbourne; from here, he will release a weekly show pushing his favourite sounds. Ezmun, like many DJs, started in his bedroom, and this led to house parties involving close friends and cohorts.
Fast forward to 2019, and he finally made his breakthrough into clubs, playing venues in Manchester, Hanoi, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City. Enamoured with the dark, sparse atmosphere of minimal half-time 140s and the lairy clatter of percussive leftfield bass, he implements these as peaks and troughs in an energetic techno setting.
Although Ezmun is still honing his art, his transgression between playing for friends and enlightening the stage at venues locally has not gone unnoticed, and he is slowly gaining notoriety amongst the underground in Vietnam. It is with this recognition that Ezmun has been invited onto our station and will be available on our DJ agency soon. We hope you enjoy the show!
The debut of Cooking With Gas opens with deep UK bass and textured percussion. Tracks by Lurka, Yak, and Randomer & Hodge lay a gritty but playful foundation, anchored by weighty subs and syncopated rhythms. Walton’s Black Hole and Lokane’s Body Double carry the energy forward with intricate sound design, highlighting the boundary-pushing creativity at the heart of this mix.
Mid-set, techno selections shift the mood darker and more industrial. Rebekah’s Enigma, Blawan’s Calcium Red, and Goncalo M’s The Evil Within deliver relentless momentum with distorted drums and atmospheric tension. The mechanical feel is balanced by Deapmash’s remix of Dan Habarnam, merging minimalism with raw percussive power.
Injecting colour back into the mix, experimental club cuts and grime influences emerge. Fox’s Big Man Ting, with production by Famous Eno, blends bashment energy with grime vocals, while Lady Lykez and Lioness keep the battle spirit alive. Soulwax and Ikonika deliver leftfield electro edges, and the Ragga Twins’ feature on Mark Pritchard’s 1234 gives a nod to classic UK rave roots.
The episode closes with raw rhythmic tension: Tsvi & Tzusing’s 24hr pulses with urgency, and Fleahunt by Epoch seals the mix with eerie spaciousness. Cooking With Gas Episode 01 is a kinetic and eclectic ride through the sounds of the underground, rooted in bass-heavy experimentation and sharp-edged club selections.
